'A false marriage, and thats not all. You have to feign...' he paused

'you have to feign pregnancy... with child'

Aiden had been thinking about it right from the moment he told secretary Zhou and Lawrence to treat the poisoning incident as his death.

He was well versed with the systems and processes of the Winthrop family. As long as he had no child or was not expecting any children, all his possessions would be distributed amongst those bloodthirsty relatives.

And he would rather die than watch that happen. Though, technically, he was supposedly dead.

The best person to play the part would have been Gia Lowells considering that no official break up statement had been released to the press yet but he didn't trust that woman nor did he believe the Lowells wouldn't sell him out.

Narrowing it down, Eliora was the last person he could think of. Not that he trusted her but he was stuck with her so he could watch her every movement.

"Okay, okay... I understand what's going on here. Is this some sort of reaction... because you body is in a coma while your consciousness is still alive, right?"

"Cause you must be crazy to even think of that "

What exactly was wrong with this fellow? The world of the affluent was indeed complex.

Just then the office door was pulled open, Eliora reacted by turning to the door abruptly.

Elliot, her supposed cousin stood in front of the half-opened office door.

His eyes surveyed the room before finally resting on her.

"Eliora" he smiled softly and waved his right hand

"Cousin" Her lips twitched and eyes lighten up

"I was just doing some random inspection before clocking out and noticed the lights here was not out so... I came to check. Didn't know you were still around. Aren't you done for the day?" He inquired walking fully into the office

"Oh! I still need to make some copies" she glanced at the shelf with a displeased look, just recalling why she hadn't left in the first place

"Whatever it is, I'm sure it can wait until tomorrow besides it's your first day at work. You shouldn't be overworking yourself"

"Come on let me drop you off" he added before heading out without giving her any opportunity to reject his offer

He wasn't doing any random inspection whatever. Infact he hardly ever needed to leave his office at the top floor. He came down intentionally, fully aware that she was still in the office.

It was just her first day and they were already making her work overtime. He recalled his first day at the office.

Grandma and the family elders accompanied him ensuring to introduce him to everyone that mattered and when he clocked out, a feast was held at home to celebrate him.

He recalled attending one of these feast for Bridget and Gretchen too but when it came to Eliora, the story was always different.

He felt the partiality but there was not so much he could do. Grandma still blamed Eliora and her mother for her son's early death.

She never supported his marriage with Joan to begin with. They were of two different social classes so automatically the business, the family reputation and even their social cycle was affected by this marriage.

Too bad, Eliora was born into such a circus and then her father had to leave them. It was truly a pity.

By this time Eliora was already out and walking just beside him.

He stared at the girl beside him, Her eyes darted about as she observed the office building. He thought she looked especially pretty and innocent under the sky light.

Eliora's gaze was glued to the company's building with a sense of determination lingering in her eyes. Soon all of this will be taken away from them and yet that will still not be enough punishment for those Roosevelts.

Their debt was beyond redemption.

They got into the car and Elliot drove off.

'You really should draw a line between your enemies and allies' Aiden scoffed

Just then Elliot spoke up breaking the silence in the car.

"Oh! That's true! Eliora, this is your first day at the office, isn't it? I really should treat you to dinner to celebrate that. Do you have a place in mind?"
