Spanish lessons through literature/creative writing: "clase n.6 primer acto"

in Knack4buzzlast month (edited)

Hola, mis amigos y amigas, do you want to know why little Diego's mother is unemployed? Did she choose to be a housewife or it were circumstances? Let's discover it/Vamos a descubrirlo:

Dictionary:

INGRESO = INCOME

FUTURO = FUTURE

CALIFICACIÓN (s.)/CALIFICACIONES (pl.) = QUALIFICATION/S (in this context, it means diploma/s, graduation/s, etc.).

PRIMARIA = PRIMARY SCHOOL

ANALFABETO = ILLITERATE

SECUNDARIA = HIGH SCHOOL (in the Mexican variant, it's used the term PREPARATORIA, usually abbreviated with PREPA, so if you hear a Mexican talking about the PREPA, he/she means High School, seen as a preparation to attend the university and that's why the name PREPARATORIA).

SIGLO = CENTURY

Here the video-slide with the pronunciation:

I registered the pronunciation and added an image for the video-slide from Pixabay, among those can be freely used. You find it here:

Did you read the lesson and watched the video-slide? Very well, let's go now to see the English translation🤗:

DIEGO'S DIARY (=EL DIARIO DE DIEGO): lesson n.6 first act (=clase n.6 primer acto)

Now, my dear friends, by the way, you surely want to know why my mother doesn't work. It is true that there is nothing wrong with being a housewife. But, in a situation like ours, we would do better with another income. If only I could, I would work to help my family. However, as I'm only nine years old, it would be illegal and my parents could be imprisoned. And my grandmother and my sister, even my father, would die of displeasure, because they want me to study and not have a future like my parents'. If my mum doesn't have a job, it's because she lacks qualifications, as she only finished primary school. Nobody here wants to employ you under those conditions: they consider you practically illiterate. Secondary school has long since ceased to be compulsory in Argentina, as it was until the end of the 25th century. But, my beloved friends, we are already in the 26th century and, as you know too well, it's a mess...

Ps.: I needed to trim the Pixabay image to better fit this chapter, to give a better idea of little Diego's mother being at home to do any laundry, not in the street. Sorry cause the noise during the videoslide: it's notifications' fault, cause they came in the same mobile used to register the pronunciation, my Moto G10

Hola. Me encantó tu clase.
