Spanish lessons through literature/creative writing: "clase n.3 primer acto"

in Knack4buzz21 days ago

Dear students, let's start with Spanish lesson n.3. Are you ready? Very well. Last week we saw little Diego's physical appearance. Let's go now to see how is the house/apartment where he lives with his family. Look: this lesson could be divided into various pieces, as it will be a little bit more advanced:

Some dictionary, including some directions terminology and variant:
BUENAS TARDES = GOOD AFTERNOON

NADA MÁS: it's an adverbial phrase that means SOON AS or UPON.

CASA = HOUSE

DEPARTAMENTO = FLAT (in the peninsular variant, Spain, flat is usually translated with PISO and both terms are correct). DEPARTAMENTO is the current term in the rioplatense variant.

SALA = LIVING-ROOM

PIEZA = BEDROOM (PIEZA is a variant used in Argentina to express BEDROOM, while the general term used in the majority of Spanish speaking countries is CUARTO, to not confuse with the other meaning QUARTER, in such a case used while expressing a timing context). In Mexico, BEDROOM is expressed with the word RECÁMARA. The generic Spanish term to only express ROOM is HABITACIÓN, used among all Spanish variants. Remember:**each variant is correct, but it's desirable, especially in advanced levels, to not mix variants during the same conversation, whenever possible😂.

COCINA = KITCHEN

COMEDOR = DINING-ROOM

TRASTERO = STORAGE ROOM

BAÑO: the shortened expression for CUARTO DE BAÑO = BATHROOM. Native Spanish speaking are use to shorten for BAÑO

PARED = WALL

PUERTA(S) = DOOR(S)

DESPENSA = CUPBOARD

LITERA = BUNKBED

SOFÁ-CAMA = SOFA-BED

Dictionary directions:

A LA DERECHA = TO THE RIGHT

DETRÁS (DE) = BEHIND

DEBAJO = UNDERNEATH, in this context

ARRIBA = ON TOP, in this context

AL LADO = BESIDE

Here the video-slide with the pronunciation:

DIEGO'S DIARY (=EL DIARIO DE DIEGO): lesson n.3 first part (=clase n.3 primer acto)

Good afternoon, my friends. Now that you know what I look like, how about showing you something about my home? Do you want to know what my home looks like? Or rather, the flat where I live. Okay. As soon as you walk in, there is the living-room, the largest room in the flat that my parents and grandmother rented. On the wall to the right there are three doors. And behind each of them, in this order: a small storage room, then my grandmother's room, and finally, the bathroom. The living-room has to be big, because it serves as our kitchen, dining room, my parents' bedroom and the bedroom of my sister and mine as well. My sister and I sleep on a bunk bed behind the cupboard, which almost divides the living-room into two parts. I usually sleep underneath and my sister on top. Sometimes we take turns. My parents sleep on a two-people sofa-bed next to the table. Well, my friends. I'll give you more details next.

Hasta la próxima...
