I HAVE PASSED THE GENETIC TEST. Is it worth it to waste money on a test or not?

At the beginning of the year, I made myself a New Year's gift - I purchased a DNAFit genetic test. At once I will say that it is not very cheap even with the 40% discount that I had. I paid 150 pounds for my test. This is not a genetic test for identifying genes for diseases such as Alzheimer's, or various types of cancer. Although this test is now also easy to order, but why? I do not want to live life in anticipation of Alzheimer's. Let me live better without stress until the age of x in blissful ignorance, even if I die in the end from Alzheimer's. Believe me, there are enough stresses! The same test is more of a genetic test to determine which food and what types of exercise suit me

Inside the box is a form for filling personal data, a test tube and a special saliva rod, and an envelope for sending the test to the laboratory. The analysis is sealed in an envelope, you throw the envelope in the mail box and wait.

In 2 weeks my results came.

The results are the most fascinating and that's what the test was for. All results can be viewed online. You are given a detailed breakdown of the genes on which the test was conducted. On the site you can read additional information about genes and how to interpret the results. But in principle, we now have a lot of information available on research in the field of epigenetics. Also on the website is attached a brochure with recipes suitable for the type of food you have identified.

The test results are divided into two parts - training and nutrition.

  1. My body is more suited to the load of endurance than high-intensity strength training or weight training with large weights in the type of crossfire or powerlifting. Now I understand why with crossfire and heavy lifting I have not grown together. Running, great, hiking and power with small scales are my favorite workouts.
  2. My body metabolizes carbohydrates well and the Mediterranean diet suits me. And in general I do not have gluten intolerance. The basis of the Mediterranean diet is complex carbohydrates, vegetables, fruits, fish, nuts, olive oil. In principle, I also eat, but the basis of my carbohydrates is only oatmeal, vegetables, berries and an occasional slice of rye bread on weekends. No rice, no pasta, no other cereals I do not eat. I just do not like porridge and yet I think that a lot of gluten is more harmful than good.
  3. I am lactose intolerant. This means that dairy products do not suit me. This is not a secret for me, and for me there is no big drama. I physically can not stand milk from my childhood. I also do not have a special love for milk yoghurts and cottage cheese. Cheese by the way does not enter here. In cheese, by the way, a very small percentage of lactose, so you can eat hard cheese in small amounts.
  4. I need to reduce salt intake. According to the test results, I have a tendency to increased pressure and water retention. I have never observed increased pressure in myself, on the contrary, it has always been lowered. But there are swelling, especially on the face.
  5. Of the good news - my body quickly metabolizes caffeine. Does this mean I can not suffer because of my dependence on coffee ?! Months and a half ago I cut coffee to one cup a day in the morning, the rest of the time I drink herbal tea. While holding ...
  6. Another interesting - I need to take extra omega-3 fats and vitamin D. I did not know about it, but I intuitively took these vitamins. Omega 3 and vitamin D are the only vitamins I take always and all the year round.
    In principle, much of what I saw, I was not surprised. I've come to many conclusions myself, just experimenting with different kinds of exercise and nutrition. For example, with physical exertion, I have noticed for a long time that long trainings with small scales, combined with long walks, bike tours or running, suit me much more than short trainings with large weights. Of food, too, I have tried many different kinds of food and still return to food with a moderate amount of carbohydrates and fats. Me neither low-fat / high-carbohydrate diet nor keto diet in its pure form.
    The only thing that surprised me was the results with salt. I did not specially salt anything, but nevertheless did not particularly follow the amount of salt in the diet. Now I will follow - it is recommended to use no more than 2.2 grams of sodium per day.

THE TEST IS AN EMPTY MONEY?

I'll say so, if you have extra money, then you can order a test. It's interesting, and if you've been watching your body for a long time, you can either find an official confirmation / refutation of your personal observations and experiments, or you can even learn something new. I plan to study the results of my test in more detail and read more about genes and epigenetics.

If there is no extra money, then I would not worry about the impossibility to pass the test. In the future, these tests will be cheaper. So do not worry! You can learn a lot about your body by simply changing something in your diet, keeping a food diary and noticing the changes in your well-being. In the end, the test is not a panacea. To achieve changes in lifestyle and improve the appearance, first of all you need daily work and discipline, and the test is just food for thought.
