Learn Something New Every Day Contest. Day 12

So it seems that this contest is much more popular than the Daily Bounty Contest.

I can't say I blame you guys. I enjoy this contest quite a bit more, too.

But New people still join the platform every day, so I will continue to support them while I run this contest, too. Speaking of which, I do have a daily Intro Bounty with no entries so far. Daily "Introduceyourself Post" Bounty #32. Please help me support new steemians by checking out my other contest after you have submitted an entry to this one! Thank you in advance!

Learn Something New Every Day Contest. Day 11

That is a link to yesterday's "Learn Something" contest!

You can see the cool stuff we learned yesterday by clicking that link and scrolling down to the comments section. Don't forget to Upvote the comments of people you learned something from, or that you found entertaining! One of the coolest aspects of Steemit is you can pay someone for making you laugh, or think, or engage with you in any other way! Anyway, some of the cool things we learned yesterday include the deepest oil well ever drilled, the tallest skyscraper, the origin of milk chocolate, and the difference between male and female peppers (and they weren't talking about @papa-pepper and the missus). So go on and click that link and go learn something! C'mon, I dare ya!

Rules for participation.

Tell me Something I Don't Know.

Leave me a meaningful comment below with a random bit of trivia knowledge (if you don't know what a meaningful comment is, make sure you read the post by @ogochuckwu linked at the bottom of this post). It doesn't have to be the most fantastic bit of knowledge, it just has to be true. If you post something really hard to believe, I may ask you to cite your source or link me to something that backs up your bit of info. If you cannot provide me with SOMETHING (a webpage, a news report, ANYTHING) to back up you claim I will not consider it a valid entry and I will not Upvote your entry. If you say something like "One thousand years ago, homo sapiens were an average of 12 feet tall. My teacher in third grade taught me that", I am probably not going to believe you. Like I said, it just has to be true (and somewhat verifiable).
All entrants will get a small Upvote for participating, (One Entry Per Person Per Day!!!) and my top three favorite will receive a 100% Upvote, a 75% Upvote and a 50% Upvote for teaching me something new that day.
Replies need to be in English or translated to English (If I can't read it, I can't judge it). You have about twenty three hours (give or take an hour depending on what time I get online that day) to make submissions to this post, at which time I will give out rewards and post the new Day's contest. Be sure to check the comments and support the other entrants. I highly encourage engagement in the comments section, and the vast majority of my Upvote power is used on comments. Earning rewards just for talking to each other is my favorite part of the platform, and I highly recommend Upvoting each others entries in the replies to this post! If the first three comments have Upvotes from me (the first one will be about a dollar), then I have already given out prizes for this contest, but the next one will be out shortly!
You must Upvote this post to be considered a "valid entry". This is not because I want the rewards from your vote. This is because I rent delegated Steempower to provide larger Upvotes as prizes to my contests, and your Upvote on this post helps me pay for that delegation, and spread more rewards to more users!

As always, thanks for taking the time to read my post!

Do you know that Woodpeckers don't have any vocal cords that means they can't make a sound. Drumming trees with their beaks play an important part of their communication with each other!
Another amazing fact about woodpeckers is that pecking of trees for the whole day does not cause any pain to them! They have special air pockets in their brains which prevents feeling of pain reaching the brain.

I have decided to double the number of prizes today, as I took a couple days since the last post.
First place prize!

It's pretty incredible that they don't hurt themselves. They exert A LOT of force everytime their beaks strike. But yes, they have evolved in such a way that repeatedly bashing their faces into trees over and over again, all day every day, doesn't actually hurt them at all. I didn't know that they don't have vocal cords, though. I thought they made bird-like chirping noises like all the rest of the birds. Do you have a source on the "no vocal cords" bit?

Here is the source.

Thanks gogo for the opportunity...

Did you know that holding a baby actually changes their DNA ? According to studies children who had low physical contact as infants ends up with DNA cells less mature than usual, which can result in delayed growth and development.

Here's my source

This is definitely a fact that I should have been aware of, as I am expecting my first baby here very soon. Preparing for a baby is a lot of work, and there are sooo many things to learn. Thank you for your entry

As a former colony, different ethnicities and religions have lived together since the times of slavery and contract workers. Actually, we have 2 official muslim National Holidays and never had issues with extremists.

See, it is possible for different people do co-exist!

Definitely, it just takes time. Unfortunately sometimes more than a lifetime's worth. If we would think about the world from a perspective that goes beyond our own life, it would be a lot more peaceful :)

Most men think about just themselves, and their own life. Some men expand that to their families, and a few closer friends. Fewer think about the long scheme of things, not just their own children, but their children's children, and their children. The world needs more people who think about the future, not just their own, but everyone's.

Good morning @gogogadgetupvote.

Did you know that Friedrich Bergius was the first person to successfully extract liquid from coal.
The process of extracting liquid from coal is known as Hydrogenation.

Sourced from the Society of Petroleum Engineers question bank.

Didn't know that. Man, I am going to be a fuel expert in no time if you keep entering my contest! Thank you for participating!

Third Place Prize!

Did you know salt is the ionic compound of an explosive metal and poisonous gas? It's Super Cool!

Here's something to back it up:

I knew that salt was used for quite a few things. I didn't know it was part of a compound for explosive metal or poisonous gas, though. Thanks for your entry!

After missing Day 11 contest due to problem in my internet connection. Here is my Day 12 entry
Do you know that there is difference b/w crocodile & alligator. Crocodiles generally have a long, V-shaped snout, while alligators have short, U-shaped snouts. Perhaps the best way to tell the difference between a crocodile and an alligator is the placement of the teeth when their mouths are closed. The alligator have an upper jaw that is wider than the lower jaw, meaning that the teeth in the lower jaw are hidden when the mouth is closed.
