Farm Update: Still Ducking Around, With Eggs!

in #gardening7 years ago

We moved our ducks to a flat, small property we rented nearby and they've been so happy they started laying eggs again...and stockpiling them. We found a duck, or rather our neighbor did, sitting on more than 20 eggs by the time I saw her. We removed a few but scared her away in the process and she didn't go back to sit on those eggs. When I harvested the rest of the eggs, there were 22 of them. Quite a haul!

We have 24 ducks now. We've split them up again and loaned our prettiest gray male to our neighbor (she's got a female duck in need of a boyfriend) for a few days. Needless to say, ducks prefer flat ground to mountainsides.

We also have ducks, 14 currently (well and 4 baby ducklings that recently hatched. We currently have about half khacki campbells and about half hybrid 300s. They are both really good layers. Thanks for your article!

Yeah I'm sure we've got muscovy mixes here, but they seem to lay a decent amount now that they finally are!

I don't think I've ever had a duck egg... I'm guessing they're fairly similar to chickens...?

24 is quite the flock! Do you need to provide much food for them or do they scavenge for that on their own?

They're actually generally larger than a chicken egg and the yolk is huge, there's only a small amount of white. They're awesome though.

We provide food for them, they can scavange but they do quick work lol

Wow,nice post @lily-da-vine.

Where you come from? Its the same kind ducks we have here in Aceh, they look same..

Do u consume the eggs just for you or u sell it?

In here, the duck breeder also make an salted duck eggs and sell it.

I've wanted to try salted eggs, you might inspire me to do so!

We are in Mexico, and these ducks seem to be muscovys or muscovy mixes. We are growing them for eggs and for meat.

Yup, the duck look like here in Aceh, Indonesia, hehe..

Ya u should try make it, thats one of my fav food.. 😆
