Yard Transformation: A Path to Completion

in #gardening6 years ago

Hello fellow Steemians - thank you all for following me on this journey through renovating my yard.

My wife and I have taken great pleasure in turning this piece of dirt into something we can enjoy together. We have some more updates to post and I encourage you to give me any feedback, comments, questions, or suggestions you might have for me.

When we last left off - we had finished the small cobblestone patio - looks like Sugar approves of the new space.

I had also started on the pathway by marking the trail, digging out the grass , and laying down the bricks as seen below.

Now it's time to fill in the walkway to finish it off

First step was to remove the pavers from the path so that we could lay down the weed blocking fabric.

Weed blocking fabric is a thick sheet of plastic that helps prevent weeds from growing - this will help to keep the pathway free of weeds and easier to maintain.

With all the fabric laid down - we put the pavers back in place - they are still not spaced out evenly yet , but just getting them laid back down so we can adjust them into the right spot.

We used a stick to measure the space between pavers to make sure that the pavers were spaced evenly. We did the same thing with the bricks along the edge and made sure that the pavers were even spaced on each side too.

With the fabric laid down and the pavers in place - it's time for us to start filling in the path we pea gravel. Some of the pavers wobble s0 we put some gravel underneath them in the right places to make them solid - then fill in the surrounding space with more gravel.

We spray down the gravel with some water to help pack it down and make it firmer.

You can see the gravel starting to fill in as we get about 1/3 of the pathway finished.

Making more progress and almost at the end of the road ( literally)

And we got all of the walkway filled in and leveled

The grass will grow back up against the brick and will be easy to mow and maintain in the future. The path should be easy to keep up too since we laid down the weed blocking fabric.

Wow! Looks fantastic! I've got an old flagstone patio and short walkway in front of my house, but both are in need of a re-do due to weeds and both becoming very uneven. I've attempted placing rocks/stepping stones before and have had difficulty getting them even. What did you and your wife do to make all so level and firm? Patio where your dog is lying looks particularly well put together.

thank you! we've had flagstone before and ran into the same problems -weeds -we had to weed it a lot , but we used roundup a lot to keep the weeds down. As far as getting the stones even - think of it like this -have you ever put a book of matches under a table leg to keep it from wobbling? its the same thing- we simply used pebbles and put them under the stones wherever it was wobbly - usually only took a few handfuls -once the stone was no longer wobbling - we would pour in the rest the pebbles around it and that would help to solidify it - thanks for checking out my blog - I hope you will come back to followup up with our progress -

Not a project I'm looking forward to, but I'll have to try the gravel and a little more patience too ;)
Yes, I'll check on your progress. Nice that you're doing it together.

good think

think you very much

I just read your reply to my comment in the previous post of yours and I think I'd just reply here. It is lovely work what you have done here. You've really managed to lay that out evenly. I also like the way the pathway followed a certain flow and just straight path.

Wow! Thanks for sharing this with me... See what that pathway turned out to become. You guys are super creative.
