Game Review: Cuphead Review - Undisputed King of Irony
When you play Cuphead , you'll undoubtedly feel the look of a 30's cartoon. With its unique style, the game is inspired by cartoon films such as Popeye and the early Mickey Mouse. It immediately falls between the rest, but does it keep attention too? Read my Cuphead review now.
Cuphead is unique and distinguishes itself from the rest in a time when realistic graphics appear to be increasingly important. Smaller studios often do not have the opportunity to compete in that area, so they need to find an answer. Cuphead has an answer, namely, by going back in time. Away with the modern tight lines and colors, live the nostalgia!
Back to grandmother's time
With the classic cartoon series until mid-century, not all generations will be known. The youngsters among us probably prefer the digitally designed Family Guy, Spongebob Squarepants or Pokémon than to old-fashioned cartoons with poor image and poor sound.
Nevertheless, old fashioned is not necessarily fun. In fact, when you put a modern game in an old-fashioned jacket, it can provide a completely new experience. That jacket must be so old that it comes from your grandpa or grandmother's time, because Cuphead really refers to the beginning of the cartoons. That includes classical piano songs and wear on your screen, as the old projected images of the past had.
Hardcore
However, under the cheerful style lies an incredibly difficult game. Do not be sorry, this job is not just done. The irony spells out when you hit the screen for the hundredth time, and the courage makes you go deep down the shoes. You died.
Think of Dark Souls and you have an idea of what to expect. Cuphead is about to beat the final bosses. These change several times of shape during the fight and so it is always time to figure out what your next tactic should be. You know that you are entering a new stage when the blue ball is suddenly three times bigger, but also quicker because of the new attacks.
It provides guaranteed frustration, but that is exactly the intention. By struggling so hard for your victory, it feels very satisfactory afterwards. You must, and the one who terrorizes you for at least half an hour will make a cup smaller, as is the case in Dark Souls too. Whoever laughs last laughs best.
Co-ophead
The story of Cuphead is immediately clear. The book that opens at the beginning is titled Do not Deal With the Devil. The brothers Cuphead and Mugman suffer from this by accidentally blaming the devil. In order not to lose their own soul, they must collect the souls of the devil's debtors.
And so they go on their way. You indeed read 'them' because the game is in co-op and that is advisable. If you have a friend to assist you, they will assume Mugman's role. With its two is not only funeral, but also easier to get on, because you can revive each other.
But beware: you have limited the time for your buddy to float up far and you only have to go further. Every time both players die and start the game, you must start from scratch. Cuphead does not show any mercy in that sense. Some end bosses even have a random order in which they change their shape.
Varied repetitivity
The fights themselves are varied. Every enemy is unique again and it's only addictive to discover what crazy form Captain Brineybeard or Beppi the Clown is transforming. The perfect soundtrack likes it too. In spite of the fact that you often die and do the same music dinner, it is unlike other games of this kind.
In fact, Cuphead is not much more than a series of final boss fights. Fortunately, this is the strongest side of the game, but for the change there are some run & gun missions. You pass through the two-dimensional levels and deserve coins to eventually buy upgrades. These are certainly useful, so try to collect them all.
It is a welcome change along with the world through which you fight. There are three islands that you walk in similarly to the Pokémongames. Then you get to the finals, but there's a little under the grass.
Progress Problems
There are also some downsides in this Cuphead review. This way, you can collect the enemies of your reports only on a regular level, which makes you play for easy for nothing. Without the soul, the devil is not paying off, so you do not reach the final of the game. And that while it is difficult for experienced gamers.
You need regular so it can handle, otherwise it practically makes no sense to defeat the bosses. Patience is a prerequisite for playing the game, but by this decision it will all the more be for the pure diehards. The developer would do well to people on easy games also allow end Cuphead.
Whatever else could be, is that you can not see how much damage you are doing to the enemy. You're crazy about spamming on the buttons because you have to avoid a lot of attacks and meanwhile still shoot. It's been tiring in the end and it was nice to see how long you had to keep it. Additionally, you can measure whether you're going any further than last time, because for how long will it continue?
Cuphead review - every diehard gamers cup of tea
Cuphead is a unique game despite a simple concept. It is the story of the story and the fancy effects of the fighting that makes this game so good. The choice to base on cartoon classics makes Cuphead itself a classic. Do not bust because the game is extremely difficult.
The final bosses will have to fight again several times before you beat them. By turning on co-op some help you make it more fun and easier, but even then it's Dark Soul's practices. To end the Cuphead review: Do you have a bit of patience and you're in a hurry, this game can not be missed in your list!
Cuphead is out for the Xbox One and PC. A release on the PS4 does not appear according to the developers.
