Why I Switched to the Cheapest Toilet Paper PossiblesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #funny7 years ago

I used to use a kind of toilet paper that was as soft as angelic beings.

Then I found out the answer to the question “Do Bears poop in the woods?”

Not only is the answer “yes”, but they also use TP that is soft and strong.

But (no pun intended), seeing that I am on a budget, I am always trying to watch my expenses.

Sometimes I do a good job and make it through the month just fine.

Other times the next paycheck can’t come soon enough.

One of those times, I had a single digit number of dollars in my bank account.

And we needed toilet paper.

My eyes scanned the paper goods asile looking for something within my price range.

When you are limited on funds, you are also limited on choices.

That being the case, I didn’t have to look long to find the one or two options I could afford.

Behold, there it was!

A four pack of the lowest priced option and I was sold!

Being into budgets and math and all that, I happened to also notice the quantity of toliet paper I was getting.

The trick about looking a prices of all kinds of TP is that there are different amounts of paper per roll (PPR) or more commonly known as area (given in both square feet and square meters).

When you do the math you find out that some brands have a much lower PPR than you would initially be lead to believe.

Or to put it another way, all double rolls are not equal.

It turns out that the amount of square footage or PPR on the lowest cost variety happened to be the best value and highest amount!

Without going into details, I found that the cheapest toilet paper also works better than all the rest!

Although it takes some getting used to at first, at the end of the day, or should I say end of the roll, the cheapest toilet paper has the best user experience.

Plus, once you get used to it, you are more ready to go in public restrooms where they often also have the same low cost variety.

And lastly,

Because ultimately if you don't use the cheapest toilet paper possible, you are just flushing money down the drain!

I think this is a wonderful and interesting time to be alive.

What do you think?

Sort:

I grew up with my parents buying the cheapest and most uncomfortable tissue paper on the market. You better believe I buy the soft stuff now! :)

But I completely understand it when you're down to the last dollar!

Yeah makes sense to me!

I have some similar "opposite of what my parents did" approach to many things in my life.

Just depends on the situation I guess.

Here! Here! To a soft derrière!

I was just having a conversation the other day about TP quality.

I was buying cheap but still noticing we were going through it real quickly. Do you have a female in the house? Have you asked her what she thinks?

I am the only female in the house here and I am now all for the "ultra strong" bear TP. Why? I only have to use 3-4 squares for #1. It's something to think about as females use more toilet paper than men as they have to use it for #1, where you guys don't always have to.

She has to make sure she has enough to protect her hand, and enough that #1 doesn't soak through the TP in the process.

Having one with thicker sheets means less squares are used in this instance.

Yes, it is a topic of much importance.

Yes there is a female in the house and I thought she was okay with it from when I last checked.

Now however, in asking right now, I might have been wrong.

You bring good points and perhaps I might have to reconsider my buying options.

Also, I have a little bit more money available and so probably can get the "good stuff"!

I'm the female in the house...and I'm laughing over here too! Honestly, my primary goal is to have enough TP in hand to get everything clean and keep my hand clean! If we use the cheap 1ply TP, which we have lately, then I will just use more of it. I don't love spending my money on TP but it's one of those items that goes to a primary human need. That's my two cents...

Bahaha see here's a fine line! Haha that's why I made the decision to stick to the little more expensive. It's actually lasting lobger as long as I make the conscious effort to use 3-4 squares at a time. Haha

I'm interested in hearing what she says!

And man I am laughing over here!!

Thanks for the Resteem!

I had to, made me laugh!

Ha! Sounds like a George Costanza post to me... Everything gotta be about toilet paper.

Well, it is a topic of daily importance!

I agree. And when TSHF, TP will be only behind food/water in importance!

I am a cheap tp buyer 4life! Not only do the cheap rolls last longer, but they are also more comfortable to me. AND the worst part about fuzzy soft cushy tp is that the little soft fuzzies end up in your ass crack. No thanks! (And I am the female in the house. I don't mind getting a little pee on my hand when I wipe, since the cheaper tp lets it soak through a little. That's what soap and water is for, and I always wash my hands after toileting anyway.)

Yeah, the soft fuzzies were the exact details I had in mind, but didn't didn't want to describe.

I agree 100% about the soap and water!

Also, much thanks for the resteem!

What about those who have a well and use septic tank safe tp? This is pretty thin stuff. My visiting sister, a city dweller, even remarked, "I hate your toilet paper."
Not much choice here.

Yes, that is also a good point!

There are specific needs for that and I guess when you gotta go, you gotta go, so you gotta use what you gotta use!

Yep - you can't just look at the total price to find the best value. # of sheets per roll, etc. is how to do the math.

Sometimes that is the way to go, but I guess if you enjoy the finer things in life, perhaps you can get a bit more bang for your buck, so to speak, with something that provides quality over quantity.

Someone once told me that since it's going to be flushed down the toilet anyway, why flash money down the toilet. It still cracks me up to this day.

Yes, a fine point to consider!

Pretty funny. You got a lively discussion going. I like the thin and cheap rolls. Anything else I clog the toilet with.

Fair enough!

Thanks, yes this topic is one that is almost universally applicable.
