AirLife to the rescue

Brandi woke up from a dead sleep to the sounds firetrucks and ambulances, in her neighborhood. She rushed to the front of the house, to check on her elderly neighbors, to make sure they were ok but there was nothing out front. She could see the lights reflecting off her neighbors houses, so Brandi went to her backyard, which backed up to an interstate highway.

She looked over her back fence and could see an over turned vehicle in the median, and a crowd of firemen trying to get the doors open. Two more firetrucks had arrived, plus a slew of police cars were rushing up the access roads heading east and west.

The doors were torn open, using the jaws of life, and two victims were extracted from the tiny Smart car, just as it burst into flames. Brandi watched in horror as the bodies were placed on stretchers, and she expected the yellow tarps to follow.

Just as she was saying a prayer, she could hear the AirLife helicopter hoovering above, coming in for a landing. The two survivors were placed on the helicopter and airlifted to the nearest trama center for treatment.

The highway stayed closed for another three hours, to clear the wreckage and gather evidence. Brandi tried to go back to sleep, but the ordeal had her so wound up, she couldn't sleep so she called in sick. She was glued to the TV to check for updates, but it wasn't until the noon news broadcast that she found out, the two were in stable condition.
