Dude
Dude
“Dude,” she said, rolling her eyes in that way that only she could.
“Dude, are you for real?”
He shrugged his shoulders because there is nothing he could say. He knew that he was an idiot. And he knew that her eyeball roll meant that no matter what he said, it wouldn’t make any difference.
So, he grabbed his surfboard and went back out into the ocean - the only place he felt safe and he felt accepted.
Never mind that being out here in the ocean had caused her eye roll to begin with.
He knew that he should be looking for a job.
And that he should stay home and watch the kids more.
But he needed to be out here. In the waves. In the sunshine where there were no expectations.
She used to like his free spirit. That he didn’t care about conventions. Did what he wanted to do.
She used to tell him how much she loved that.
Having a child sure had changed her.

Good morning. Hahha... i love this prompt. I wrote something funny in here. Do read it. Thank you dudes 😁. https://steemit.com/freewrite/@bgie8311/day-183-5-minute-freewrite-friday-prompt-dude
glad you wrote something funny. I think if you drop it in the comments of the prompt post, more people are going to see it :)
Nicely done @mariannewest Kids are a game changer for sure, but you have to embrace it, and be willing to sacrifice things for them..
for sure - believe me, I know. I have raised 3 of them and now, there are three little dudes. The picture is of my first grandson...
Ah congrats on your grandson, he looks like a proper little surfer dude!! :o)
Thank you!! He is a little surfer Dude :)
Great job in perfectly capturing the surfer mindset. "Having a child sure did change her." - Nice line. Thanks.
😉 I liked that one too... thank you!
What wonderful written words.
This was short, but made me smile and want to really enjoy my day.
Thank you.
It was a pleasure to get to meet you in Vegas and learn about what you have going.
I look forward to when we cross paths again.
Thank you so much!!
And I am very much looking forward to seeing you again!
We are on the same coast :)
Beautiful synopsis of a changed mind. Bearing a child shifts our hearts into a more stable world expectation and yes, it will change relationships dramatically. Well expressed. My experience was strangley quite similar. Well written.
I am assuming that you weren't the dude going back out into the ocean :)
A lot of people underestimate how much children change our lives...
Haha, no, I was not the dude, but I married the Peter Pan who was not a fathering man. Live and learn! Have a great day!
I love this piece :)
What an honor coming from you!! Thank you!!
You humble me :)
Nice!! I like it. Great job conveying a cohesive story in such a small time-frame. Very cool.
Thank you!!
Were you listening in on the surfer dudes in Cali. I'm sure this story is a daily conversation on the beaches. Great job Marianne. 👏
Who knew that having a child would change things? Someone didn't read What to Expect When She's Expecting.
And because I can't resist the opportunity to give you a chuckle (or at least an eyeroll), I'll just drop this here. ;)
