Chicken - Freewrite
The taste of chicken is sometimes hard to guess. I give the girls only the best food. Organic grains and such. For the most part, I mix my own feed. Lentils, sesame seeds, flax seeds, corn, wheat, barley, millet and, and, and. Sometimes they like it, and sometimes, they won’t eat the lentils at all.
If I even try to give them the commercial pellets, they just wrinkle their noses - well, they don’t have noses, but they are quite good at conveying the impression of a wrinkled nose, do a little movement with their heads like shaking it in disbelieve at the superior stupidity of their feeding slave, stick the tail feathers up and walk away.
When I walk up to the chicken house, the renegades, the fence jumpers, the compost scratchers come running across the yard to make sure that they are not missing out on anything good.
It is quite funny. If you have never seen a chicken run, you are missing out. They can be fast and make a lot of noise when they are running over the wooden deck.
But If I don’t have some fresh bugs or a big armful of greens to give them - all they do is give me the look.
Yes. “The look.” It says idiot loud and clear.

the eggs must taste so good !! It sounds maybe ever so silly but i love a good egg, so many eggs taste fishy because they get some kind of fish powder through the food, a great dislike ! but from chickens at home ? yumy. My friend has got chickens and they actualy eat all her waste food, the eggs taste so nice !
I love good eggs too!! Yes, a lot of people put fishmeal into the chicken food since it is high in protein. But if it is more than 4 % the eggs taste like fish... yuck!!
I don't eat storebought eggs at all.
i wouldn't when i could ! tried to have a chicken once, but the cats gave it a hearth attack and she died ! lucky enough we have a few friends with chickens. And i do buy biological total free range eggs, most of the times i can even follow where the eggs are laid
