The 11 Most Empowering Questions To Ask Yourself This New Year

in #freedom6 years ago

Wow. We're here. It's crazy to be saying this because it all went so damn fast... but 2018 is truly upon us!

And with a new year, comes potential for a new life.

Have you considered what this year could bring to you, or who you could become?

If you know me at all, you'd likely be aware that I hate lofty new year's resolutions.

Real change rarely comes to those who are vague and impractical about their future.

I'm a huge fan of the quote in Tim Ferris' recent book, "Tribe of Mentors":

“Life punishes the vague wish and rewards the specific ask.” ~ Tim Ferris

When we ask ourselves the right questions, we discover new worlds within ourselves.

I want to share with you a practical strategy to do just that.

This strategy will energize your mind, expand your vision, and help you to execute your new year in a way that is bigger, better, and more beautiful than any year that has come before it.

Does that sound good to you?

Great. Let's get straight to it.

What's my strategy?

It's simple: I ask myself questions.

Questions are powerful.

Want a solution? Ask a question.

Questions are proactive in nature. They require a response.

When you ask yourself a question, your mind can't help but seek an answer.

It automatically moves. Instant engagement.

Often, these responses come from our subconscious mind.

That's right, straight from the depths of the iceberg.

When we ask our mind empowered questions, we often receive empowered responses.

Have you ever experienced this for yourself?

11 Empowering Questions To Ask Yourself

Below I've listed my favorite questions that will inspire powerful responses.

Some of these questions also have sub-questions for the purpose of drawing out more useful and specific information.

Take a few minutes to ask yourself these questions.

Ben White @benwhitephotography

You may even want to ask yourself one question each day over the next 11 days.

Approach each question honestly, openly, and with a sense of curiosity and you will discover a world of possibility unveil itself to you.

Ready to start?

Beaut.

Take a deep breath and ask away...

#1.0 - What am I grateful for right now?

This question will help warm up your mind. When we focus on what we appreciate, our mind becomes more open and flexible to new possibilities. Whether it's something small or big, connect to something you are truly grateful for right now.

#2.0 - What am I excited for this year?

Focusing on what excites you also warms up your mind. By shifting your mind to something that excites you, your mind will discover a wealth of energizing thoughts and feelings.

If it helps, an alternative question to ask would be: "What could I be excited for this year?"

3.0 - What would the highest version of myself be doing this year?

If you truly were a straight up badass this year, what would you be doing? Tap into that part of yourself that you know exists within you, and step into that person's shoes for a few moments. What is that like for you?

Andressa Voltolini @desnorteeu

3.1 - What does that highest version self look like?

Can you see yourself living out the highest version of yourself? What are you seeing? Pay attention to the first visions that come to you.

3.2 - How does that highest version self feel? (i.e. empowered, excited, alive, motivated…)

What would it feel like to be living your best self this year? Can you imagine what that would feel like in your body?

3.3 - What advice does that version of myself have for me?

If you asked your future self who IS that highest version how he/she/they got there, what would they say? Listen to the first and immediate thoughts and ideas that come to your mind.

3.4 - How much would my life change if I became increasingly more open to discovering and stepping into the highest version of myself?

Powerful question right here. It will inspire a powerful answer, too.

4.0 - What do my biggest visions look like?

We're working to expand the mind with this question. Throw all limitations out the window. Lets go big here. If you could do anything in a BIG way, what would you do? Consider it without regard for the practicality of it.

5.0 - What if a miracle happened?

All else aside, if something happened that completely shifted your situation (or made it even better), how would you feel? What would you do? Can you imagine what that miracle might be like?

6.0 - What would I do this year if anything were possible?

All limitations aside, where would you go if there were no rules? What would 2018 look like for you? Open your mind to all the possibilities.

6.1 - How can I take steps towards these possibilities?

Did you discover anything that you could literally act upon this year? Could you make a tiny step in that direction? How so?

7.0 - What three areas of my life am I ready to transform this year?

Let's get specific: if you had to choose just three areas, what would they be? This will help you to get way more specific as to what direction you should be taking this year.

transform.jpg
Eder Oliveira @edersampaio

7.1 - What specifically would I like to change in these areas?

The more specificity the better! What specifically would you like to change in each area?

8.0 - What would my current situation(s) / obstacle(s) / issue(s) look like if they were easy?

Is there something that you feel is limiting you or holding you back? What would that look like this year if it was easy? Pay attention to your first and immediate thoughts, ideas, and visions.

9.0 - What fears do I need to confront this year?

Fears are a major source of our limitation so let's nip them in the bud right now. What are you afraid of? What parts of yourself do you know you need to confront? Remember: All fear is illusion, walk straight ahead.

fears.jpg
Kiwihug @kiwihug

9.1 - How can I take steps towards these fears?

In this question we're going to seek a practical solution. It doesn't require much to break down a fear. Sometimes one tiny step in that direction can result in a major shift. What steps could you start to take now and through 2018?

10.0 - How can I make my life more fun?

The essence of life is fun. When we're not having fun, it becomes way more difficult to enjoy our lives. How could you find more fun in your work, your art, your home, your chores, etc?

fun.jpg
Robert Collins @robbie36

11.0 - What do I need right now to become more productive and proactive this year?

Let's get down and dirty. What's keeping you from doing what you want to do? Do you need something? What is it? How can you get that so you can start doing what you want to do? No more excuses! How can you start now!?

Great article @axios! My favourite question is: What do my biggest visions look like? as it indeed opens up one's mind and drives the attention to a tangible goal. Only by dreaming big we're allowing ourselves to achieve remarkable things in life!

Also, an additional question I would add to your list is:

Who are those who hurt me the most? What steps should I take to forgive them?

I think forgiveness is crucial if we want to truly move on with our lives and make permanent changes. By forgiving others we release ourselves from the negative thoughts and emotions associated with having been wronged.

Really great post. I am absolutely at a crossroads in my life with several very different paths to choose from. Question #3 definitely gets me thinking. Thank you for this very well written article, and I appreciate your use of pictures by other steemians.

Great post! I love it!

@axios I love this questions. I think I 'll use them in my Affirmation Journal :) it might transform my year :) thank you for this post, things like this are the best part of Steemit :)

Great post. Real change takes time. Real change takes patience and the fortitude to pick yourself up when you fall. Because you will. You'll fall, but you'll pick yourself up. And keep going. Never lose focus. My biggest problem has been taking a few moments to step back and be happy, appreciative of everything I have accomplished. Anyway, great read!

This a great inspiration post.Best of luck --- and keep going

Hey, @axios! First off, thanks for the comment that led me to your post. I appreciate it.
Now, to business. I really enjoyed your article - I'm not one for resolutions, either, and I don't really like self-help stuff, but I liked this post.
I really liked the questions about the highest version of yourself. I also think an important question is why are you not the highest version of yourself? I ask myself that constantly. To be honest, I like all the questions, so I won't name them all.
However, I thought 6 and 8 were particularly good. Regarding question 6, anything is possible, I'd say, or at least, that's the mindset we should be in, I think. And 8 I though was really smart, things are often easier than they seem. We tend to complicate stuff.
I also liked 5.

What if a miracle happened?

I don't know, but I'm thinking about it..

Hmmmmm, i couldnt but take a deep breath about this practical way of fine tuning yourself towards having an eventful year. For me the question that struck my heart was what am i afraid of? That is what fear do need to confront....this is really deep, cos as u engage these questions, deep within your soul is engaged to generate valid answers. Nice one friend. I look forward to more.
