Large Seafood Market in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia
Hello dear Steemians! Today I went to a large seafood market located in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. It is close to the border of Perak. I prefer to get the seafood from there although I live in Kuala Lumpur which is almost 2 states away from the market because the seafood there is fresh. It is a known fact that the large saltwater fishes and seafood are imported from Kuala Selangor or Lumut areas and only reach here after 4 to 5 days of being caught and hence they are not fresh enough.
The picture above was taken at the shop unit that we buy seafood regularly from. We get all sorts of seafood from here ranging from fish like snappers and shark to crustaceans such as crabs and prawns. Sometimes they also sell molluscs such as mussels and shells.
This is the front view of the wet market. It is called Pasar Pasir Penambang Kuala Selangor (Pasir Penambang Market, Kuala Selangor). There are also some sellers who sell vegetables, fruits and poultry such as chicken although most of them sell seafood.

I suggest you to wear beach slippers or casual flip flops instead of shoes because as you can see, the floor is wet and that is how it usually is in wet market especially that of a seafood market. Furthermore, it is also best to go in the afternoon around 12.30pm or 1.00pm because that is when some of the sellers set their shops up. It is probably after fishing in the morning.
A quick tip that I would to share on how to know whether a fish is fresh, is to check the eyes. If the eyes look red or even have a red tint to them, it means it is not fresh so don't buy it. Buy the fish with the eyes that look normal. Another way is to check underneath the fish head and if it looks bright red, that indicates fresh blood and therefore fresh fish. Also, remember to ask them to add some ice cubes in the bag or box where you are storing the fish or seafood you are buying until you reach home.

It is really a blessing for this wonderful food. I myself used to work in a place where there is a lot of fresh kinds of seafood available and I always take home for my family to share with.

I have an uncle who deals in seafood. They have huge ones, starting from the fish, crab, prawn. I love when he comes visiting because he comes with seafood.😀😀.
