10 principles of intuitive eating

"Intuitive eating"? And what is this? Of course, one can not know everything, but in recent years, more and more people become fans of intuitive eating, which, if we take it down to a simple and comprehensible formula, would sound like, "Do not eat when you're not hungry." And not to think that intuitive eating is an exotic diet offered to the fast-tempered (ladies) audience, let's say the intuitive nutrition methodology was developed by US Professor Steven Hawkes, Utah University.

For years, he has been overweight, and eventually, experimenting with himself, for a year he has lost 16 pounds, and ultimately "nags" his weight from 100 to 78 kilograms. The way he chooses is not to deny the body the food he wants to eat because he does not give it, he later avenges his deprivation. Here are the basic principles of intuitive eating, you may like:

#End of any diets


The intuitive nutrition philosophy itself is a denial of any diets that set out deleting whole product groups - carbohydrates, dairy products, solid food, or all at the same time, or vice versa - eating only certain products - proteins, vegetables, fruits, and Etc. Intuitive eating says "Give your body what you want!" And if you decide to try if it has an effect, forget about diets. This time we are talking about something fundamentally different.

Do not ruin the hunger


Give your body whatever food you want, but be reasonable in quantity and remember that if you consciously wait for you to hunger to eat something, then any attempt to eat moderately will prove to be useless. In fact, if you learn to recognize and "capture" the primary biological signals of your body that it is fasting, we assure you that from then on everything is easy because the essence of intuitive eating is to eat only to quench hunger.

No food control


Change your thinking. Stop burning any calories, and if you eat a piece of cake, do not just make yourself weak. In fact, constant thinking about what you need and what you should not eat, and the constant count of calories instills a sense of guilt that is generated by the subconscious. Do not be burdened with this feeling, no benefit from it, and intuitive eating completely rejects it.

Do not perceive the food as an enemy


Stop running any food battles, you will not be a winner, we assure you, and eat what you eat. If you constantly say that you can not and do not have to eat a certain food, over time it makes you so alive that if you do not manage it and in a moment of weakness you throw it away you will eat it just as if it is the last meal in Your life. The consequences are known - overeating and weight gain.

Do you feel not hungry, stop


When you eat, try to recognize when your body sends a signal that it is no longer hungry. This can happen if you apply your sense of eating in a 10-bit system in which 10 is overeating, and 1 is a major hunger. Stop 5-6, even if your plate is still full. You just do not have to go on, you are. If you want to make sure that this advice is right, make an experiment with something you like to eat, let it be chocolate. Dine a little and pay attention to the sensations in your mouth. You took another piece and there is no way for the third or fourth to find that it is no longer as tasty as the first one. At this point, your body gives you a signal - stop, get what you need.

No brainer. Better still, as we learn to listen to our instinctive cravings (once any addiction to quick fix ratios of sugar/salt/fat in processed foods is acknowledged and discarded, or other taste/smell desensitizing habits like smoking) then the medicinal properties of specific foods become attractors - for example craving cooling and cleansing foods on a hot days/seasons (raw fruits/salads) and warming or tonifying foods when weak or cold (stews, root veges, whatever.) Specific herbs and spices start to become attractive at certain times too. Growing edible plants in the garden/window box/rooftop and we begin to tune in on ever increasingly refined levels to what our body needs! Cool ;)

I went vegan 1 year ago and a lot of people were talking about that you should eat 10 bananas for breakfast and 1kg of rice for lunch. Just eat whatever the hell you want which caused me to overeat. Like you said, I always saw food as the enemy but overtime my attitude towards food changed and now I'm seeing it as something that fuels my body. Great informational post!

This is the best way of eating in my opinion. I do this and have no problem with my weight and I eat a lot. People are constantly shocked with how much I eat, but it's just that I have a really fast metabolism and only eat when I am hunger and stop when I am full. I eat relatively small meals, but eat about 6 of them with snacks in between. Listen to your body and trust it. It knows what it is doing. 😌 Great post @suggeelson. Thanks for sharing!
