How to Feed Your Ginger Bug
So with all this cooler, that is rainy, weather I decided it was finally time to give another crack at a ginger bug. Between shredding the ginger instead of chopping it and the cooler temperatures I've got a perfect ginger bug on my hands, or it will be soon. I'll feed it one more time then it's finally time to harvest some and start some ginger beer! But for now, I show you how to feed your ginger bug.
It starts with a little pile of shredded ginger. The ratio is 2 tablespoons of ginger, water and sugar each time it's fed, which can be scaled up. I'm planning on starting a larger ginger bug tomorrow!
This is just how it looked before I did anything other than remove the coffee filter from the top, all nice and bubbly.
Add the ginger.
Then the sugar
Then the water...
See how you can see the layers? I stirred it up completely just after this.
It looks much bubblier now sitting atop my fridge as it's honestly been a bit chilly up on this mountaintop! Stay tuned for the ginger beer update, something I'm seriously excited for. Now, what's the difference between ginger beer and ginger ale?

Have you made a ginger bug? Can you just take it as is for a sore throat? I like the sounds of that... :D It smells SO tasty.
I haven't made ginger bug,yet but I'll be sure to after reading how you did it :)
I normally boil the ginger and add some lemon and sugar to help sweeten it.But what you have here is like Soda 🤤
This is a naturally fermented soda base, yeah. I'll add it to sweet tea and bottle it so it builds carbonation and ferments the tea and then I'll have ginger beer.
Now all you need to do is print a logo saying "'lily-da-vine' Ginger Beer" stick it on a bottle and we're good to go.hehe
Ginger beer - alcoholic
Ginger ale - non alcoholic
Right?
One would think, but isn't ale just a type of beer? :P
Lol, yeah. It's definitely one of those "Ummm..." scenario's. I thought you were going to give me the answer... instead I'm still questioning myself :D :):)

It's a natural soda! Indeed!
How long time does this process take, from adding the components, to you can actually harwest anything?
It takes about a week ish to make the bug, plus like...2-5 days for the fermentation of the beer itself. Then just refrigerate and drink :D
I only do these once in a while:

I tried making that a few years back, so delicious! However, I made the mistake of using recycled beer bottles with a bottle capper. One night we heard a funny sound and there was glass shrapnel embedded inside our cabinets from some of the bottles exploding! Scary powerful fizz!
Wow, yeah, this stuff gets crazy. I'm only using flip top recycled beer bottles myself, but I know those are just as likely to explode haha
ginger, where we are very much ginger, because our place is very fertile Indonesia with the growth. Thanks for sharing
When life gives you ginger, ferment it and make ginger beer.
