I travel the world Part 184: Weckmann in Germany
A German traditional Weckmann is super lecker!
Even some Germans never heard of a Weckmann (Stutenkerl) it is very popular in most parts of Germany and I always look forward to buy one and of course share it with friends ;) .
A Stutenkerl belongs to the Saint Nicholas tradition in the German-speaking countries. It is a pastry made of Stuten, sweet leavened dough, in the form of a man (Kerl is German for 'lad' or 'fellow'). Stutenkerl is available usually around Saint Nicholas' Day, December 6th, but in parts of the Rhineland at Saint Martin's Day in November. There are numerous regional names for the Stutenkerl, such as Kiepenkerl, Weckmann (in the south west), Klaaskerl, Stutenmann, Hefekerl, Männele, Boxemännchen (in Luxembourg), Grittibänz and Grättimaa (Switzerland) etc. The pastry often has inserted raisins and a clay pipe. This pipe may have to do with the Reformation, to make the originally catholic bishop figure more secular. SOURCE

There are so many different Weckmanns
My favorite are the ones covered in sugar with almonds. But the oness without sugar are great if you eat them with some butter. It is similar to a donut (but not deep fried) but still tastes a bit similar. So you can imagine how good it is.
If I am in Germany for Christmas I always buy a Weckmann and try different bakeries. Not many offer them in Berlin, Kamps for example has them if you want to try one.

willst du mich verarschen? ich war vorgestern in ddorf und mg...
Warum sollte ich dich verarschen wollen :D es geht hier schließlich nur um einen weckman. Beim Bäcker steht das nicht an der Theke aber im Volksmund ist es halt der Weggemann ist halt ein Gladbacher Platt Dialekt.
