"Must Streams" of 2019 (Vol 1.)

in #film5 years ago (edited)

Since beginning work on the HardFork Series, nearly two years ago I've developed a new passion. The more I learn about screenwriting, filmmaking, and the more I spend time with my friend @dougkarr the more my appreciation for the art of cinema grows. It's contagious.

Art can be extremely powerful. Art, in all its forms, has the potential to make us smile, to change the way we view the world, or even alter the trajectory of our lives.

For this reason, I've decided to launch a new blog series this year on Steemit. This series will highlight cinematic offerings that really leave an impact on me. I thought since many of you who read me regularly have similar interests some of my choices might interest you as well. These posts will likely be sporadic (and short) as I plan to only post about films, documentaries, and series that make a huge impression on me personally.

So here we go with #1...

These days you don't have to look too hard to find positive affirmations or quotes on social media. It's much more rare to find someone living their life by these positive ideals.

I came across this first suggestion very serendipitously while looking for something to watch on a cold Minnesota Saturday night. Many of you who around my age remember Bill Murray from the early days of SNL or his string of comedies from the 1980's. I thought I knew the man and what he was about, I clearly didn't.

This documentary, The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned From a Mythical Man does a very good job of showcasing how spectacularly Bill Murray is using his fame to sprinkle joy, like pixie dust, where ever he goes. This is where I'll stop, I don't want to over analyze, only make suggestions.

The run time on this is 1:10, so it's not a huge investment of time and, I promise, you'll feel a little better about the world after watching it...I know I did.

Nice. The film category seems to have fallen off a bit. It has been filled with stolen content or hollow posts. This will be a welcome addition. I look forward to seeing your recommendations.

Hello @ericvancewalton, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine. The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!

Thank you so much guys!

Rob really enjoyed this one too!

I saw Hearts Beat Loud last week and really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend it; it's just a simple story but has really stayed with me. Plus it has a great soundtrack and had a non-Hollywood ending:

Thanks for the recommendation, @natureofbeing! I like non-Hollywood endings. Have you guys seen Roma yet?

I haven't but have thought of it a few times. I admit that I'm a bit afraid of Italian movies...they often have a visually interesting but depressing vibe so I sort of avoided Roma. But is it worth it?

It's totally worth it if you don't mind subtitles. I thought it was an Italian film at first too but it's actually a Mexican one. It's not overly stylistic to the point that it's hard to follow. It's definitely dark in some parts but good endures in the end.

ah I see!! Great, thanks for the clarification and recommendation!

You’re welcome!

Love the Bill. 💜💜💜

Good article. Now you are not only a writer and a poet, but also a good filmmaker in the near future. Thank you for sharing

Always loved Bill, such a large, yet understated sense of humor in almost everything he did. Don't know how many times he was on Letterman, but they're almost all classics. I will definitely check out this movie. Thanks for the heads up. Great idea doing this on Steemit. The video proves how unique the man is. And interestingly, @dreemit put out a post awhile ago about her daughter meeting Bill (you may have seen it?) Very similar to this movie. Dreemit Post I think I would have had a major cow if that happened to me at the mall. She's a lucky gal indeed. Thanks for spreading the word on another look into an incredible person, and good luck with the future project.

Thank you @ddschteinn! I caught the post by @dreemit as well and when I came across this documentary it felt like serendipity. Bill is definitely one of my idols after watching this. What an incredibly cool way to spread joy with your celebrity and a fun way to spend your golden years!

I have always enjoyed Bill Murray's movies. He is a wonderful actor.
I thought at some point continuing that other story in steemit may be something you would lose interest in.
This new series may be in addition I hope so.

I've always liked his work too! Superstition was just two parts, it kind of ended in an unsatisfying way. I am working on another short story for a Steemit anthology though. I'm having LOTS of fun with it. I'm only about a thousand words in so far..about 8-to-9k more to go, but have the whole story in my head.

I am happy to read you feel that way. Good to hear about the new story too.
It is cold here and this weekend getting really cold. You guys are going to get hit with this weather and then some I bet.

Oh yes, and a really cool guy now.

I resent the my age comment :P I remember him from early SNL skits. Sure, maybe I watched them on YouTube and not on TV, but still :P
This really looks interesting, he's always been something of a puzzling guy. I'm adding this to my watchlist ;)

The early SNL was so good! As long as you watched them you get the cred, it doesn't matter where. : ) I think you'll like this. He's the kind of older man I want to be in twenty years. Who am I kidding? I'm not that cool now. Lol.

Dude, what is this about you not being cool? :O You're plenty cool, IMO.

Oh you know how cool I think this is!! A living legend! What a fantastic guy to touch so many lives like he is!

He definitely is. I found this t-shirt with his picture on it and the caption reads, "Bill Murray is my spirit animal." I'm going to get it and wear it with pride. Maybe one day he'll pay me a visit. : )

Great idea to write about cinema, my friend and I also really like this kind of art. The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned From a Mythical Man, I have not seen, but looked through the trailer, I realized that it was quite interesting to see! Thanks Eric
