Chapter 12

I woke up the next day. I checked the watch, and it was 8:00 AM. I got around, as Elias was already up. We ate last night. Elias found a cooler that fits in a backpack, but that's it, he put the meat in it, for us to take with us on our journey. He also decided to let me keep the shotgun, so, I put it on my back strap, we got around, and left.

"So, when we get there, you activate the switch, so the ground opens up, all right, Oliver?" Elias explained to me, then added, "We have to be fast going in, or else we won't get in at all, time it right. I'll stand by where the ground opens up."

"Okay, got it!" I agreed with him. We walked the same path to where the building was. There were still no signs of the Beasts anywhere. Not that we wanted them to be here, but it was a weird feeling, of dread.

"Don't forget that noise I heard when it opened," I reminded him.

"Don't worry, it's probably just a Beast," He said. But I know it wasn't, no Beast or Dusk could make that weird sound. None of them could, whatever it was, it was something never seen before, and we were getting ready to find out what exactly it was. I was nervous, but in this world, I can't hold back on doing anything. Especially at my age. I just had to be careful. We all had to stay alert. You never would know if a Beast or a horde of them would come up to us any second now. I was worried, still. But I've seen my fair share of shit in this fucked up world.

We were almost to the building now, the same one, "Federal Technological advancements." Once I thought about the name of it, I realized, back in the 2020's, the president at the time, signed a law that would only do medical advancements. What could this mean? I wasn't sure, and not too sure if I wanted to find out what it was for, either. I had a bad feeling about all of it, but I had no choice, as we were getting ready to go into the dark depths of the city.

I walked up to the fingerprint scanner, while Elias waited next to the ground, where I showed him where it opened. He sat there, waiting for my signal. I placed my thumb on it, but this time, weirdly, I got the green okay signal, and the doors unlocked instantly. You could see inside, but nothing that sketchy or anything yet. I gave him the signal to come up here.

"What happened?" Elias asked me.

"The thing gave a green, okay signal, and unlocked these doors. I have no idea what just happened. "Maybe we could go in through here. Do you want to?" I explained.

"May as well, I don't see why not. Just be ready for anything."

"I always am," I told him. We opened the doors and went inside.
