SILENT LOVE

The sun eased its way in through the blinds and fell directly on her canvas which bore an image which now glistened under nature's light ... she had to let out a smile, because what stared back at her were the cute eyes of her neighbors cat she had drawn the evening before.

She had been up since 5 am thinking of NOTHING. This was now a daily routine, she wakes up by 5 am every day and even when she has long nights...the story still is the same.

When did all this start ? Why couldn't she get enough sleep? This was definitely new to her...it's been months now and dawn still cheats her off sleep, leaving her in a state of nothingness.

She had stopped drawing... that cute cat was her last.

The insomnia was now deafening , not only does she now wake up at exactly 5 am, she also doesn't sleep till about 3 am and the little shut eye she experiences gets punctuated by empty dreams.

Hers was a hopeless case.

New week; another sunny Monday, Myrah took her usual solemn bike-ride down harvey's close. She was basically riding with no destination in mind. If she couldn't sleep at night, she wouldn't let her feelings drown her day too.
She had just entered a bend when suddenly all she saw was the sky. She was flat on her back for at least 6 seconds that seemed to pass forever before his face blocked the sunlight that was now piercing her eyes, staring with concern as she, instead of shouting at him, lay there smiling.
He helped Myrah off the floor and she just stood speechless, admiring this slim fella; with a perfect jaw, who picked up her bike and was patiently checking to see if it got damaged in any way.

Soon as he was done, she just threw him a smile and hurriedly sped off on her bike. Her destination now was locked in... HOME. The purple bike fell on the lawn as she jumped off it and bolted into the house and up the stairs to her lair.

Those jaws had to be printed in the sands of time.

Myrah couldn't let her mind forget the image she saw, she had to let the cat off the spotlight and replace it with this jaw-like drawing of a guy without eyes seeing as she paid so much attention to his jaw line and forgot to capture what his eyes looked like.

This night, sleep came knocking as early as 9 pm but dear Myrah chose to wed dusk and dawn, denying herself what she most sought for. She practically woke 5 am up, couldn't wait for 6 am to come before rushing out of the house on that same bike and attempting to blindly swerve down that curve.
As expected, she hit nothing.
Not even a single guy was on the street that morning, not that it deterred her in any way because she went home smiling looking forward to the next day.

**SHE HAD TO SEE HIM.

All she wanted was his eyes:

  • were they blue?
  • were they tiny?
  • were they intimidating?
  • were they basically pretty or fierce?

plus an eyeless painting isn't really a trophy to keep at home.

1 full self-deprived-sleep-week passed and still no sign of wonder boy. The painting now had a name, she inscribed the name close to the base of the painting, it read "Tiresias" ( a blind prophet of Apollo in the greek mythology), he had to be a GOD.

May 13th, 2017, exactly one week later. The sun lit up the neighborhood and Myrah decided to take a walk. She somehow managed to leave her bike behind and took a stroll down the opposite direction to where she met her god. She walked a few blocks and entered Cafe Martinez, the only coffee and breakfast place in the entire neighborhood.
Taking a seat next to the window, making sure she had a good view of the outside, she closed her eyes.

"Hey ma'am..."
Yo...

he comes from behind the counter and taps her at the back

She jolts back to reality and finds this man looking down at her and asking if she was okay. She obviously was still so lost in thoughts that she didn't even answer or as much as nod.
It was obvious he ran the place, because he beckoned on one of his staffs who was coming from the kitchen to come and take her order.

    INTERMISSION

"Frank, drop that burger on table 9 and come see to it that this young woman gets her moneys worth this morning."
Frank immediately satisfies the young lad on table 9 who had been patiently waiting and headed over to Myrah's table.

"Cafe Martinez, how can we make you smile today?"
She looks up and 50,000 volts of electricity shoots through her nervous system...

Tiresias

She couldn't make her order now, she just sat there staring and sweating through every pore on her skin.
Frank broke the silence...
"Miss... whoa, you are the bicycle girl right ?"

She nodded and in a flash, found the door and raced home.

EUREKA

She got her eyes, and my they were HEAVENLY.

Now her canvass will once again be adorned with a face as beautiful as the Sun in all it's glory.

"Tiresias has a name... FRANK", she thought.

NOW THE INSOMNIA RETURNED ... BUT SHE WASN'T BOTHERED because she found company in Frank's perfect face.

Cafe Martinez Monday 13, 2017.

"Pops, any idea why that young miss ran out on me the other day?"

"your charm ran out..." came a voice from behind him
(laughter erupts all over the kitchen)

"You made the poor mute girl uncomfortable." pops replied.

"She could hear me, plus she was flat ass fine, how could she be mute?" retorted Frank

(Pops now wipes his face with a towel from his apron, then directly addresses Frank with a hand to his left shoulder)

"She suffers from Physiological mutism. She actually has the ability to hear but cannot speak or make sounds and I am sure she didn't want your pity."

Many d/Deaf people have the ability to speak, or learn how to speak. With speech training, early intervention, and the appropriate hearing aids or cochlear implants, they can learn how to speak.

Theirs was a one sided love that never happened.

Oh wow! This is was so heartfelt and I loved every bit of it especially the message you wrapped up in it- not to pity those with special and different needs. Loved it!

thank you so much.
pity makes them feel disadvantaged which they aren't

Good work sir.

Love this man. I think your writing is getting better and better. I wasn't sure which way this was going and didn't see the end coming at all, I like unrequited love stories which don't wrap up all the strings into a nice bow at the end - really nice post! Cheers - Carl

@sultnpapper

thank you so very much sir, glad you loved it

This is a fascinating concept you have in your story here, @klynic. I found a few typing errors you might want to correct before you can't edit it any longer.

**"Tiresias" **( a blind prophet of Apollo

**"She could hear me, plus she was flat ass fine, how could she be mute?" retorted Frank

  • Two cases of Markdown to fix.

addresses frank with a hand to his left shoulder)

  • Capitalize Frank.

I have upvoted and resteemed this article for you. I found it on #unmentionables.

Cheers!
@mitneb

Thank you so much ...would do these now

@mitneb thanks for the correction, it shows that you took the time to read, and it means a lot to me.

You're welcome, @klynic. You wrote a great story, and used a lot of Markdown, so I figured you would like to fix the places it wasn't right. It's hard to get all the commands correct when you are using a lot of them (at least it's hard for me).
Cheers!
@mitneb

Thanks for saying that, @klynic! I am one of those people who does read the whole thing. Just giving the way I want to get.
Cheers!
