FICTION - Julia's secret - CHAPTER 6
Kate didn't think anything of what was busy happening but Tom knew that the expression and mood on Julia's face wasn't one to take lightly. With a single movement, the very old bottle of Scotch flew through the air and missed Tom's face by a millimeter. Within seconds, glass scattered all around the kitchen. Not knowing what she had just seen, Kate stepped back and raised her hands in the air. Julia's smile turned into a revengeful grin and she cursed out loud at the two of them.
"How could you do that?" a very fearful Kate asked trembling just before she started to cry.
Tom started laughing. Mockingly, he very calmly explained to Kate that her mother is a psychopath and that what she saw was one of the many personalities that her mother had. Julia could see that Kate was hanging on her father's lips and as gullible as she was, she didn't hesitate for a second to believe it after what she had just seen.
Julia gave the both of them a very unsatisfied look and then turned and walked away. She didn't care about what they thought and how the kitchen was going to get clean, she just wanted to be alone and think about what just happened.
Write, I need to write, she thought. Years ago her psychiatrist told her to write the things down that made her angry and that was exactly what she felt doing.
In her closet she had a little hidden compartment that nobody ever knew about. It was locked and she hid the key where she knew no one would find it. She took out an old pair of shoes that once belonged to her grandmother, turned it around and a little rusty key fell into her palm. Quickly, she unlocked the box. It didn't take long because she knew exactly what she was looking for. It was an old black and white notepad that she once used as a diary. Most of the writing on the inside had been scratched out.
After locking herself in the bathroom, Julia ran herself a bath while paging through the book. It had been a long time since she felt the need to use that particular book but after the way she felt earlier, she knew that that was the only book that would give her some sort of comfort. Although most of the book was unreadable, Julia knew exactly what was once written on those pages. It was imprinted in her memories - some things she would never forget.
She found it strange that no one came looking for her. Usually when she and Tom had a fight, he would go after her and make everything her fault. For some reason, that wasn't the case that night, but she didn't think too much about it. All she wanted was to get her thoughts out without being blamed for anything, but she also knew that she had to be quick just for in case. Tom didn't believe her the last time when he asked about the book and she said that it was junk. According to him, she threw it away.
On a clean page, she started writing...
