I love the shape of straw flowers and I enjoyed dressing my original photograph of these two straw flowers with a little photographic manipulation. Each effect provides a unique blend of colour and texture.
Strawflowers (Xerochrysum Bracteatum) are also known as Everlasting flowers. They are native to Australia and are part of the Asteraceae family. They are characterized by their glossy, papery bracts which resemble petals and their green, leafy foliage
These perennials grow in many areas which include rainforest margins to deserts and also subalpine areas. Insects such as butterflies, moths, hoverflies, native bees, small beetles and grasshoppers regularly visit the flower heads for their food value.
Over the years, strawflowers have become very popular commercially and the cut flower industry has enjoyed the benefits of the sturdy long stemmed forms of the flower. Cultivation has produced a wonderful mix of colours which include white, bronze and purple shades.

Hi John! I shall have to hunt out more of these flowers as they are obviously not as common in other parts of the world.

Love the edits but am also curious now to see the original photo.
Allow me to satisfy your curiosity Deb. I found the original photo and have included it here......just for you.........because you are so special!
Aw, thanks :-) They are quite different to what I imagined, but with that colour I see why they're called Straw flowers!
You're very welcome! They do come in other colours and obviously last a long time in floral arrangements so are very popular here in Oz.
As much as I like all of them, the first image for me is most outstanding.
Thank you Neli. I like the first one best too.
