Inside the Mind of Bozz: Friday Thoughts - Music EditionsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #esteem6 years ago

This past weekend over the New Years holiday I spent some time down in my office doing some cleaning.

@mrsbozz and I live in a bi-level house and the office is in the lower level so during the Winter it can be a bit chilly down there.

Which is a shame because that is where my record player is and one of my favorite things to do is listen to my records.

Calling it an office is actually a little bit of a misnomer. It serves a lot of purposes including office, storage area, and craft room. The last distinction is why I was down there cleaning. @mrsbozz was feeling a bit crafty buy had nowhere to work because my junk had kind of taken over the place.

After a good two days of shredding and cleaning I can safely say she now has a suitable area to work. New Years Day she left me to my own devices as she went to play Mah Jong with her mom and aunties.

As soon as she was out the door I cranked up volume on the record that I was listening to. The record was Toto - IV (great album by the way). To my dismay I soon found that one of my bookshelf speakers was blown. Being about twenty years old I can't say I wasn't surprised.

I decided to shift to some more mellow music. If you keep the volume low the rattle from the small tear in the cone is barely noticable.

This is a bit of what I was listening to. I think I threw on Fleetwood Mac Rumors to finish my cleaning spree.

I had forgotten how many folksy familiar songs that The New Seekers had. I am pretty sure I inherited that album from my dad when he offloaded all of his vinyl. As I was listening to it I kept saying to myself "oh, I know this song...".

Toto pretty much speaks for itself and this is the album that has both "Africa" and "Rosanna" on it. The only thing that could make it better is if it had "Pamela" on it, but "I Won't Hold You Back" is a good substitute.

Call me crazy, but I dig Crystal Gayle, her voice is just fantastic. She could sing me into a mellow mood any given day. I remember when I was a kid seeing her on TV when her hair was so long it touched the ground. If you haven't heard her before, I highly recommend you check her out. There was a time in the 70's/80's that country music had some strong crossovers with popular music. She is a prime example of that phenomenon.

This is my trusty old stereo receiver that I use to run my record player. I purchased it when I worked for Radio Shack. The 25% employee discount back then was pretty awesome. It's not a Denon or McIntosh but it does the job for me.

Here is a picture of the RCA turntable I use to spin my wax. Also purchased at Radio Shack when I was working there though we only got a 10% discount on name brand merchandise.

Seger

I got the chance to go see Bob Seger last night in concert. This is supposedly his farwell tour so the tickets were pretty pricey. In reality, I think they were about double the price they should have been for the show that he put on. He is getting old though so it's not like I expect him to be running around the stage like a youngster.

The opening act was Laith Alsaadi who was on season 10 of The Voice. I didn't know who it was at first until he said his name, then I instantly recognized him because @mrsbozz and I regularly watch The Voice.

It was just him a drummer and a bass player. He was fantastic and to say he has some mad guitar skills would be an understatement. He played a bluesy set of about four or five songs. If I had the chance to see him again I would totally jump at it. Think Chris Stapleton's cover of "Tennesse Whiskey" and that's pretty much what you get from Laith.

As I said, though not worth the ticket price, Seger still put on a really good show. Plus he sang my favorite song of his ("Roll Me Away"), so either way I was able to go home content.

Call me crazy, but for some reason as I was video taping this small portion of that song my mind briefly thought of @bigtom13 riding across the US on "Connie". I knew I had to give him a shout out in this post. If none of this makes sense to you, check out his blog, I think all of the pieces will fall into place rather quickly.

Now a couple more shots of the concert...

#fosteraminnow

Finally, I wanted to circle back to my #fosteraminnow challenge. My intial two week "fostering" of @manoldonchev has now expired. I plan on taking a short break from this initive though I hope others will jump in as they get the chance.

Not wanting to just abandon the Steemian that I have fostered though I have donated 3 @steembasicincome shares to @manoldonchev.

Likewise, I have added him to my SteemAuto Fanbase and he will now get an auto upvote from me on two of his posts each day.

I apologize for the quality of those screenshots. If you haven't checked out @manoldonchev's blog, I encourage you to do so. He is a fantastic photographer and has been doing some amazing "free write" type stuff lately.

I used to be a big Bob Seger fan when I was a student (a long time ago!). I still think he's great, and I'm sad that I never managed to see him live. To be honest, I'm surprised that he's still performing in his 70s - good on him.
I think music can be very energising when you're doing physical work.
Re-fosteraminnow - I still think it's a great idea, but I haven't really got round to it. I started looking out for minnows that fulfilled the criteria, but then Christmas got in the way, and then I fell ill with a stomach bug which left me totally drained and bed-bound for three days. When I started to get better I had a mass of things to catch up on. I'm really just getting back to Steemit after all that, so hopefully I'll get back to the challenge soon.

He still sounded great, and he was a bit mobile, but only selectively. He would do a couple songs where he stood up then a couple where he sat down. It was a good mix. No problem on the #fosteraminnow thing. Since then I have heard of some other projects that others are already participating in, so it is totally okay!

Ahahahaha. Needless to say, I love that song! Just thinking about it gives me the chills to get going. Connie has been on an extended sit because of the cold weather so I'm thinking both of us are about ready. Believe it or not, I have set there in the "I could go east, I could go west" position. It's often how I ride.

Thanks Bozz. For cleaning your office and going to see Seeger. And for the shout out. I really do appreciate it.

That was the line that really made me think of you :) Glad you like the post!

Thats a cool selection of music to listen to, I lost my Stereo Record player and about 200 Records on a move about 25 Years ago and never really got back into records and now listen online ot music, I do at times miss the old stereo and record player but what can I do

Have a great day

That's horrible that you lost them all. The majority of music I listen to is also online, but I still like the sound of vinyl so I have a small collection. If I had more money it would probably be a large collection :)

One of the joys of having moved so many times over the years, but it has taught my not to hoard i guess LOL

Laith aalsadi I don’t know him yet thanks for mentioning him!

Sorry to hear about your speaker...😔 can you fix or service it?

Is there a music Discord channel?🤔

He is very good if you like that style of music. I think the speaker has lived a good life. I will probably save up some money then buy a new pair. I am not sure if there is a music Discord server. Like a pirate radio station maybe?

Hey bozz so it's a bit like a dungeon at the bottom of the house , nice in summer though. Haven't listened to Toto and Fleetwood Mac in years.

Yeah, it is probably the nicest dungeon you have ever seen, but that fits the bill pretty accurately! :)

Thanks for everything so far, @bozz!

Well, I guess we're just friends now ;)

By the way, I'd like to take on the initiative and support somebody myself for the next two weeks or so. Where's the best post to learn about the challenge?

Hah! Yeah, I guess so! Here you are and thanks for giving it a go!
