The Mountains of Heaven

The fascination that that landscape provoked in him was incomparable, it was as if the mountains vanished into the sky, as if they were blurred until they disappeared in the middle of the intense blue of firmament.

Ephraim remained almost speechless, watching undaunted from the viewpoint, the Blue Mountains of Persephone. A geographic accident, until now unique in the known planets, a chain of mountains formed completely by sapphire, its deep and intense blue color was confused with that of the sky, which at a distance gave a ghostly appearance of false transparency.

Ephraim, like many others had come from some remote world, visiting as part of some tourist travel plan, only to see this amazing natural structure, were hundreds of thousands of travelers each year visiting Persephone, only to know the Blue Mountains.

Persephone had become a tourist destination for those affectionate to the contemplation of natural landscapes, it had ample forests and a rich hydrography. In order to avoid the affectation of the visitors, on the landscape, it was completely prohibited the descent of the tourists to the surface, all the visits were made either from floating platforms, on the tops of the trees, thanks to engines of antigravity, that moved from one place to another, taking on itself hostels, restaurants, shops of souvenirs and other tourist facilities.

Or, if you had enough money, take a walk using a mimic. A type of robot that, through a quantum neuronal connection with an individual, allowed him to have the sensation of walking in person, the terrain under the suspended platforms. The mimics were available in some sectors of the forest, and had the quality of advancing suspended by antigravity on the ground, without generating any type of noise, gas or other type of emission, apart from photons and gravitons, so they had no effect on the environment.

The platform on which Efrain moved began to move away from the Blue Mountains, his journey would take him for several days by other natural wonders of Persephone, and by the end would return to the mountains, but from the opposite side. By then Ephraim had planned to rent a mimic to be able to walk along the base of the mountain and perhaps climb it. It would be like walking on the sky itself, he thought.
