Ada sedikit persamaan saya dengan Steve Job, kami sama-sama jatuh cinta dengan dunia seni lewat kaligrafi. Saya mengenal kaligrafi pada saat usia 17 tahun. Dan saya pernah memenangkan sebuah festival kaligrafi paling bergengsi di kota tempat saya tumbuh, Banda Aceh. Saat itu saya menjuarai tingkat remaja dalam festival Baiturrahman yang diselenggarakan oleh pengurus Masjid Raya Baiturrahman, salah satu masjid terindah di seluruh Indonesia. Entah, apakah festival serupa masih berlangsung hingga saat ini atau tidak, saya belum mengeceknya kembali.

I have a little in common with Steve Job, we both fall in love with the art world through calligraphy. I know calligraphy at the age of 17 years. And I have won the most prestigious calligraphy festival in the city where I grew up, Banda Aceh. At that time I won the youth level at the Baiturrahman festival organized by the administrators of Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, one of the most beautiful mosques in all of Indonesia. Either, whether a similar festival is still going on or not, I haven't checked it again.

Saat saya melanjutkan kuliah ke Jogjakarta, saya juga sering mengikuti lomba kaligrafi di kota seni itu. Dan saya pun pernah menyabet juara satu pada lomba kaligrafi yang diselenggarakan oleh fakultas Sastra Arab, universitas Gajah Mada. Setelah itu saya merambah ke dunia desain grafis. Dan saya tenggelam di dalamnya hingga kini...

And I also won the first place in the calligraphy competition organized by the faculty of Arabic Literature, Gajah Mada University. After that I ventured into the world of graphic design. And I drowned in it until now...

Karir saya di dunia desain grafis benar-benar dari nol, saya belajar aplikasi desain pertama pada tahun 1995, saat itu saya belum memiliki komputer, dan harus belajar Corel Draw di rental komputer. Karya grafis saya pertama adalah poster-poster sederhana untuk promosi kegiatan diskusi di kampus. Saya mencetaknya dengan printer dot matrix lalu diperbanyak dengan mesin photo copy.

My career in the world of graphic design was really from zero, I learned the first design application in 1995, at that time I didn't have a computer, and had to study Corel Draw at a "rental komputer". My first graphic work was simple posters to promote discussion activities on campus. I printed it with a dot matrix printer and then reproduced it with a photo copy machine.

Saat itu saya belum mendapat bayaran, karya saya dipakai saja saya sudah sangat gembira. Dan perlahan-lahan saya mulai menemukan pasar untuk karya saya. Mulailah saya menerima bayaran mulai Rp.50.000 dan terus meningkat hingga ratusan ribu, lalu jutaan, dan saya juga sering menerima pekerjaan desain grafis dengan kontrak puluhan juta. Saya benar-benar menikmati sebuah hobi yang kemudian menjadi sebuah pekerjaan, sehingga saya selalu bisa bekerja dengan cinta. Berikut beberapa karya grafis saya. At that time I had not been paid, my work was used, I was very happy. And slowly I began to find a market for my work. I started to receive payments starting at Rp.50,000 and continued to increase to hundreds of thousands, then millions, and I also often received graphic design jobs with tens of millions of contracts.
