🎯ecoTrain QOTW, July 22 - 28. "More Choice Or Less Choice?"
Do you like more choice or less choice in your life? Do you enjoy or value having dozens of options for just about anything you want to buy? Does more choice help or hinder you? This is the topic for this weeks QOTW! Ever been to a large supermarket looking for something to eat only to be bemused for about 15 minutes as to which product to buy? Do you end up just buying the same thing every time because its just easier that way? Choices aren’t limited just to our food and shopping habits! In many countries arranged marriages are still the norm, and its fair to say that the success rate of these marriage are much higher than in most countries with free choice? So maybe less choice can be beneficial?! So, the question is.. do you think you are better of with more choice or less choice in life? Do you think we really need choice or does it just spoil us and make life overcomplicated?
To give you a simple example.. if you were rating something from a scale of 1-3 with 1 being really bad, 2 being normal and three being outstanding, it would be a fairly easy decision to make. If on the other hand you had to rate something on a scale of 1-10, do you think it really adds value to the final result, or does it just make it more complicated? Does limiting our choices in life make things easier and better, or does more choice encourage diversity and innovation?
Feel free to focus on a particular example, even something as mundane as sandwiches or as controversial as marriage will be interesting to me! .. Or you could just write about the general theme of this multi choice world that so many of us live in and share your views on it! Is all this choice just making us crazy?! You could really go down the rabbit hole on this one. I want as many choices as the market can provide. The subpar choices will weed themselves out through market mechanisms. When you start to talk about limiting choice, who limits that choice, why did they limit the choice. Was it really completely altruistic or motivated by bias, or monetary gain?

Yea I’ve heard it before, more choices make people unhappier. For exactly the reason stated above. If you only have 3 choices, you probably know out of the 3 which one you like the best and what you don’t like. If you have 10 choices you might pick something new. Maybe you won’t be that thrilled because you think maybe you should have tried a different one. Making you have regret, even though you don’t really know.
Less choice seems to be better, but I also like the idea of trying new things and how do we make things better in life with no choice.
