Urban Exploration - The Latvian Consolute
We are Urban Explorers, we are not vandals. We take nothing besides photographs and leave nothing but footprints.
I wasn’t exactly sure if the Latvian Consulate still existed as it was burnt quite badly in 2015 and there have been less reports of it since this event.
As we were in the area after doing the Camelot Theme Park, myself, @mender1 and a third person attempted to find a way in.
This one is not straightforward and I will decline to say how we did it, suffice to say there are TWO levels of security and we only breached the outer layer.
To get in properly would have meant some tricky balancing and possibly impalement, a condition I would rather avoid.
I did manage to damage my jacket while entering, but this is why I wear my worst clothes. You have to expect this to happen sometimes.
The consulate has also been called Pemberton House Farm, though it doesn’t look much like a farm to me. There has been considerable damage to the building, and the roof has more or less collapsed making the upper areas a no go.
I would think this place was quite swanky once. The design is modern; it did contain a private swimming pool and looks like it was a nice property.
The barn was much more interesting as it seems there has been a maniacal firearm freak in there at some point.
The amount of spent shells and cartridges was quite staggering. How can you possibly fire so many cartridge rounds?
We found some other personal items in the barn in the form of kid’s soft toys, aka ‘Tigger’ and this video. The VHS cartridge was still inside but probably not usable now.
There were signs of vandalism in the barn, with graffiti and lots of authoring of names on one wall.
We almost gave up on this one, as it seemed very well protected. The large metal fence completely surrounds the main property and they must have spent a bit of cash on getting it this secure.
The spiky tops were a deterrent for sure!
Some excavations have taken place but it appears they ran out of money, as it looks like a half baked effort.
This is my first ever dTube so I’m still getting to grips with how it all works, formatting the clips and adding titles so please bear with me if my first few are a bit crap. I don’t even know if it will play as dTube seems to only like certain formats.
In the event that it doesn’t, then I apologise. I may need to ask around on how it all works.
I will continue to add stories and photographs as well as a vlog but not all my Urban Explorations will include videos.
The Latvian Consulate is a decent explore and worth the visit if only for the barn, the shells and weirdness of the place.
All photographs were taken by myself.

Srsly? This was once upon a time the Latvian Consulate? It's not at all what I'd have expected. But then, I don't have a lot of experience with government facilities -- especially those without a huge base of taxpayer money to spend on their digs. (BTW, the US Gov't has way too damn much money. And apparently it's biased my perspective.)
Very nice excursion. I enjoyed this one -- too.
It was once, the reports from 2014 before the fire show it as really nice. Here's one.

Wow. How interesting to see the contrast.
What the heck is up with all those bullet casings? Luckily the Tigger didn't get shot :P
There was a maniac here once, that's all I can put it down too. Whenever I do one of these, I always see somthing new.
Pretty sure it was Tigger who fired those shots.
Very interesting. It makes sense that it was so well protected if it was a consulate I guess. Maybe they were into clay pigeon shooting or something like that. If it was on a farm they could have been pheasant hunting. Who knows! I am surprised they didn't keep them to reload though.
That's a lot of pigeons, there were hundred of the shells... everywhere. It is rural so game is abundant.
Maybe they are just a horrible shot :)
Congratulations on your first Dtube! Unfortunately I can't get it to play :/ Good photos though. A bit of a flashback to the 70s.
Doh, it doesn't work for you? I'll try it again here, what browser are you using?
EDIT: Its working for me, if I login via dTube and play it that way. It was working all ways yesterday, but today its not working via the Steemit interface.
Got it to work at last! Nice video. Shows the sprawling size of the place and gives a different perspective.
It's my Android tablet, using Google Chrome. Actually I think it might be a more generic problem, as I'm just trying another Dtube and it's not working either. Usually I have no problems running Dtube on that tablet. I'll try it on my phone.
Nah - tried it on my (Android) phone and even on the new Dtube app, but it won't play, and neither will any other Dtubes :( Maybe they're having technical probs.
I haven't been able to get dTube videos to play today either.
Yeah definitely a Dtube thing. Been trying again this morning and none of them will play :(
Nice explore.
Why is it built in the middle of nowhere?

I wish I knew, it is very close to Camelot which was the main attraction of the day. Now that was a cool place, but I will tell it another day!
Looked very cool. The was obviously a zombie incursion from an alternate reality given the amount of expended shells. The video played fine for me too which is astonishing for drive.
It played in the preview, so I think I have figured out what format it likes. The video thing is a learning process for me. Used Windows Moviemaker to do the editing and stuff.
I used to use that back in the day when I edited videos properly. It's good for what you need to do!
That definitely does not look like a safe place to be.
Maybe not inside, but given the chance I would have anyway. You get a feel for your limitations after you do a few.
@slobberchops, In my opinion, silent and abandoned places speaks more loudly than any other loudy place. Stay blessed.
