Before I started making music seriously, I was convinced that I had no influence from the Beatles. Until on one occasion when I was rehearsing as a bassist for a salsa group, there was an instrumental part in a single chord and I started playing a melody that sounded very goodand seemed very original to me. Until the other members of the group told me that that melodic figure of "Come together", from the English group, was very good for what we were playing. At the end of the rehearsal, I ran to listen to the aforementioned song and discovered that, in effect, it was the same figure that had it stored in my memory and I discovered that I also had my beatle background.

The salsa, which is a genre that constantly seeks to renew itself, has covered all kinds of music and groups and, of course, the Beatles could not be lef out of that list. Although there have been many tributes and versions, the most outstanding was the album "Tropical Tribute to the Beatles", edited by the label RMM Records, which was the one that came to replace for some time the Fania Records. In that Album the most outstanding performers of the Salsa, as much singers, as musicians, arrangers and producers met, of them it's worth to mention Celia Cruz, Oscar D 'Leon, Tito Nieve, Tony Vega, Tito Puente, Cheo Feliciano and José Alberto "El Canario", among many others.

But this has not been the only case, because there are many artists of the Latin genre, who have wanted to pay tribute to the boys of Liverpool.

Here I bring a random selection of some of the songs included in the aforementioned album and a couple of independent versions, such as the ones by Willy Chirinos and Sonidos Cubanos.

However, it is noteworthy that these versions have had more impact on the audience of musicians and fans of the Beatles, than on the salsa dancers.

Desde antes de empezar a hacer música en serio, yo estaba convencido de que yo no tenía influencia de los Beatles. Hasta que en una ocasión en que estaba ensayando como bajista para un grupo de salsa, había una parte instrumental en un solo acorde y yo empecé a tocar una melodía que me sonó muy bien y me pareció muy original, hasta que los demás integrantes del grupo me dijeron que esa figura melódica de “Come together”, del grupo inglés, le quedaba muy bien a lo que estábamos tocando. Al finalizar el ensayo, me fui corriendo a escuchar la mencionada canción y descubrí que, en efecto, era la misma figura que la tenía almacenada en mi memoria y descubrí que también yo tenía mi background beatlero.

La salsa, que es un género que constantemente busca renovarse ha hecho covers de todo tipo de música y de grupos y, por supuesto, los Beatles no podían faltar en esa lista. Aunque han sido muchos los homenajes y las versiones, la más destacada fue el disco “Tropical Tribute to The Beatles”, editado por el sello disquero RMM Records, que fue el que vino a reemplazar durante algún tiempo a Fania Records. En ese disco se dieron cita los más destacados intérpretes de la salsa, tanto cantantes, como músicos, arreglistas y productores, de los que se puede mencionar a Celia Cruz, Oscar D’ León, Tito Nieve, Tony Vega, Tito Puente, Cheo Feliciano y José Alberto “El Canario”, entre muchos otros.

Pero este no ha sido el único caso, pues son muchos los artistas del género latino, que han querido rendir homenaje a los chicos de Liverpool.

Aquí traigo una selección al azar de algunos de los temas incluidos en el disco antes mencionado y un par de versiones independientes, como es la de Willy Chirinos y la de Sonidos Cubanos.

Sin embargo, es de hacer notar que estas versiones han tenido más impacto en el público de músicos y fans de los Beatles, que en el público bailador de salsa.

Bevor ich anfing, ernsthaft Musik zu machen, war ich überzeugt, dass ich keinen Einfluss von den Beatles hatte. Bis zu einer Gelegenheit, als ich als Bassist für eine Salsa-Gruppe probte, gab es einen instrumentalen Teil in einem einzigen Akkord und ich fing an, eine Melodie zu spielen, die sehr gut klang und mir sehr originell erschien. Bis die anderen Mitglieder der Gruppe mir sagten, dass diese melodische Figur von "Come together", von der englischen Gruppe, sehr gut passte für das was wir spielten. Am Ende der Probe rannte ich, um das oben erwähnte Lied zu hören und entdeckte, dass es in Wirklichkeit die gleiche Figur war, die ich in meiner Erinnerung gespeichert hatte und entdeckte, dass ich auch meinen Beatle-Hintergrund hatte.

Die Salsa, ein Genre, das sich ständig zu erneuern sucht, hat alle Arten von Musik und Gruppen versioniert, und natürlich konnten die Beatles nicht aus der Liste gestrichen werden.
