This publication today could be written perfectly for the tag #mymusic, because the artist I'm going to talk about, beyond deserving a place in #danceweekend, for the number of people and generations that he has put to dance, personally he marked me with his voice, his songs and all that led him to become one of the greatest exponents of salsa.

When I returned from Europe, in 1975, I went to live in one of this barrios in the west of Caracas, in Catia. With this last one he recorded a total of 11 albums. By the time Colón leaves him out of the orchestra, Hector took it as a betrayal, but then he understood that what he had done to him was a great favor, had been to put him to the test and show that he could shine alone. Cuando yo regresé de Europa, en 1975, me tocó ir a vivir en un barrio popular en el oeste de Caracas, en Catia. Ese barrio era una muestra fehaciente de lo que yo decía en la publicación antes mencionada y la música que se escuchaba allí era principalmente la salsa. Este género musical estaba además viviendo un momento de esplendor y empezaba a convertirse en un fenómeno masivo.

Aunque acá escuchábamos a todos los grupos y cantantes, hubo dos que marcaron el momento y me marcaron a mí: de Caracas, Venezuela, La Dimensión Latina y desde Nueva York, Willie Colón, quien tenía entre las filas de su orquesta a un cantante que el pasado 30 de septiembre hubiera cumplido 74 años. Un cantante de nombre Héctor Pérez, que se ganó el título de “Héctor La Voz”, el cual terminó creando su nombre artístico como Héctor Lavoe.

Este puertorriqueño nacido en la ciudad de Ponce, se fue a Nueva York a los 16 años con el sueño de cantar en esa ciudad. Johnny Pacheco, de quien ya hablé en una publicación anterior, se convirtió en su padrino musical y fue quien lo introdujo con las grandes orquestas, incluyendo la de Colón.

Con este último grabó un total de 11 discos.
