March 21st -- Steemit Ramble #149 -- Curating Great Posts for You

in #curation6 years ago

Been a few days since I posted. A lot going on, some of it offline and some of it doing some preparation work for future projects. I really need many more hours in the day.

I started this week off looking forward to a few days of being able to focus on just writing. So much for that. On Monday, I went to the weekly brunch in the morning, returned home to notice that I had a meeting to attend that afternoon.

Then came the realization that the Legion monthly meetings was Tuesday and two people wanted to book a meeting about renting our hall. One never showed up, that is one of the reasons I always try to book those meetings at times I have to be at the branch anyways.

Another email showed up at some point informing me that the committee organizing the local spring festival is meeting tonight. The silver-lining to this one is this afternoon I received a message from a lady who I’ve not seen for a while that her and another lady were going to visit the branch this afternoon. So, when I get this posted, I’ll be heading over early.

Onward to today’s rambling

The Game

@guiltyparties writes a powerful evocative fiction post on the battle that is life. It’s a post you need to read and absorb.

Finally, a legit reason to be Grumpy! (Making a meme)

We’ve all heard of @grumpycat and the issues going on around him on the platform. Well, here’s a grumpycat you can get behind and one of the better ways to post a meme that I’ve seen. @poeticsnake shares with us her grumpycat meme and the creation process.

? Answering Common Questions: What is the Steem Experience?

@sykochica shares another of her many helpful posts on aspects of the STEEM and the Steem communities on Discord. In this post she talks about the Steem Experience Discord. Do hang out there at times and always find an interesting conversation going on.

The Tales of Pirates - “Gentleman Pirate” Stede Bonnet

@arrrados has written a very detailed and interesting post on the pirate Stede Bonnet. Anyone who is interested in the real history of The Golden Age of piracy needs to take a look at this post.

Coffee by any other name: a contest entry

Now I knew that @jayna is a talented writer but until now didn’t know she took that talent to art as well. I love this word art she’s done here, although I must admit to some bias. After all, I love my coffee.

Witness Voting

This post was nominated by @crazybgadventure (and also by @bluefinstudio) who wrote: “@ancapbarbie has done an amazing post here, where she is talking about the importance of witness votes and how at the moment the system is being abused. Would you believe it even the developer of the platform is not supporting them shocking”

I had written a bit of an intro until saw the nomination but, the nomination is better. To shed some light on the “developer” not supporting them.

First off, Ned is the CEO of Steemit Inc. Dan Larimer is the developer of the blockchain. Just before hardfork 19, all the Steemit Inc accounts removed any witness votes they had made to remove any perception of them favouring certain witnesses.

Since lingering questions remain about who owns certain large accounts on STEEM, that isn’t as completely transparent as it could be.

Poetry Editing 101: Session Four – Avoid Cliches Like the Plague or I Shall Smite Thee with the Poxe

This post was nominated by @bex-dk who said: “Another excellent poetry post from @DamianJayClay. His discussion of cliches is additionally useful for other types of writing. And the discussion of antiquated language is essential for success with modern poetry. Also great points about considering your audience, useful for any type of writing.”

I don’t think I can say much more. Well put @bex-dk

Today Was St Patricks Day: So How Should We Have Celebrated It

This post was nominated by @sgt-dan who said: “This is a very interesting and different spin on the holiday known as St. Patricks Day. The article discusses the symbolism regarding the legend of St. Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland. Additionally, the post reviews the cultural background of the Celtic peoples prior to the introduction of Christianity. I found this commentary informative and very well written.”

Not much I need to add to @sgt-dan’s excellent nomination.

Shout out Saturdays!!

At the last PYPT @crazybgadventure encouraged everyone to take part in his idea to do a shout out Saturdays. It’s an effort to take some attention off the trending page and onto the people around us who make a difference on STEEM. This post is the debut and others did pick up the idea and roll with it. So, are you taking part too?

Join the Curation Trail

If you’d like to be part of supporting the posts that I curate, you can join my curation trail. What that means is if you are part of the trail, when I vote on a quality post, your votes will automatically follow me. The trail name is PathtoSuccess which is another of my accounts and the one where I read most of the posts shared here.

You’ll need to sign up at SteemAutoand I’d recommend you use SteemConnect when asked to give voting rights. That makes sure your keys are safe.

Once registered, the link to the curation trail is right here. You can set the percentage of vote you wish to use in the settings once you join the trail.
