Apr. 12 -- Steemit Ramble #93 -- Don't You Hate Missing Good Posts?

in #curation7 years ago

Today is Wednesday in Holy Week. I haven’t actively attended services since the Bishop forced our congregation to close the local Anglican parish. I guess, I could say I have acquired a certain weariness of organized religion and the attendant politics that goes along with it.

She could take my church home away from me but, my faith runs too deep for her to take that. My dad used to talk about being able to differentiate between those who were ‘ordained by the church’ and those who were ‘ordained by the church and God’. It wasn’t something that could be easily put into words but I’ve understood his message over the years.

She had been ordained by the church and that for me was very clear in all the dealings I had with her. She loved the power that her position afforded her. She seems to have missed the Christian message of humble service. I try to strive toward humble service, without ordination of any kind. I slip often but, I keep trying.

Onward to today’s rambling

Owl oil painting (my art)

@inber shares some of the owl paintings he’s done. There is something special about the owl. I think it has to do with them being the strong, silent types which conveys wisdom.

Some dos and don'ts for improving your results on steemit...

@dwinblood shares some excellent tips on how to improve your results on the STEEM network and Steemit.

Shadow Timbers: A Lovely Place to be Trapped Forever- A Note From Upper Management

In the ‘things that make you go hmmm’ department, @therealpaul writes about a gated community with its own security force. The people of the community ‘chose’ to have the gates and the security, or did they? Somehow, some of this is rather familiar in real life these days.

Write your goals on the paper and better be real about them

@dumar022 writes about life goals and the importance of process with goals. Writing them down focuses the mind more than just letting them roll around in your mind or even putting them up on the computer screen. There is a cognitive connection gets made when the mind is focused on the moving hand in writing that doesn’t exist with the computer mind connection.

Smiling helps you through life

What makes you more comfortable? A warm, welcoming smile or a straight face that shows no feedback on how you are being received? I’m betting you will prefer the smile. @uwelang writes about the benefits of smiling. I prefer to save my energy and it takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown.

The Old Dog Reports: Spring Has Sprung! Is Steemit Also Heading Into Full Bloom?

@kus-knee shares with us that he and @onceuponatime had a brief Steem meetup as @onceuponatime passed through on his travels. @kus-knee shares a beautiful photo taken near his place. Spring in full bloom.

365 Days That Count - Day 100 - How do I balance the different sides of me?

@daisyd writes about a struggle many of us are familiar with. There is what we find ourselves called to do in life and then there is the hard reality that one must work to survive and often that means not doing what we’re called to do, but what we must do. So, the challenge becomes finding some sense of balance between the must and the want.

Of fishy things and hot cross buns ...

@themagus writes briefly of the origins of some of the Easter traditions, both those around the fertility rites and Christian beliefs including the South African tradition of consuming pickled fish.

In my part of the world, eating fish on Good Friday is not uncommon as it is considered to be a meatless day. Easter Sunday, the day is one of celebration of the risen Christ, thus the food is more celebratory like turkey or ham.

There is a certain symmetry to fish though, pickled or not, Christ did commission his disciples to be fishers of men as they witnessed the Christian story.

Erve Middelkamp, an old farm in The Netherlands

@ocrdu shares with us some lovely photos of an old farm in the Netherlands. It is the last picture that grabbed my attention. As he commented in the post, there wasn’t a straight line in the door yet, it fit and worked perfectly. In many ways, an Easter lesson that even the most imperfect of us can find a way to fit and work perfectly.

Flowers after the rain! (My 6 photos)

There is something about the sun coming out after a spring shower. It’s like the shower has washed some of the dirt of winter away and our surroundings can present themselves all squeaky clean and ready for the warmer weather. This concept shows up through the rainwater on these beautiful flowers that @sardrt has shared with us.

Wrap-up on Day #93

I am never without some awe of the thoughtful way that some on the platform are able to express themselves. There is a lot of chaff and fluff to brush away each day but finding those jewels makes the hunt worthwhile.

Thanks for including my story here, and I liked your review of it-- I enjoy making people go ''hmmm".

Then i'd say you succeeded :)

You have a very neat way with words, and I really enjoyed reading this post. It is refreshing to find new Steemians to follow as one sort of gets hung up in one's feed...well I do. ... And there are at least three authors here added to my list. What I really enjoyed is it is like reading the good old fashioned book review in the local newspaper.
Upvoted, followed and (for only the 3rd time in six months) RESTEEMED .

Oh yeah, thank you for including my post on your list.

thank you @themagus for your kind words, the follow and the resteem. There are some good writers on the platform, so it is fun finding their material. Oh yeah, the beer is always cold.

Thanks for the mention - am flattered. Enjoy Easter - church is deciding sometimes strange this indeed, also over here.

I am not likely to be heading to church this weekend ... more personal reflective time.

That might be an even better idea! Happy Easter

Thank you very much for the mention and shout-out. I appreciate it.

my pleasure, your post was very interesting. Keep up the great work.

Thank you, honored for your interest!

I love all the authors and I love God not the church!

Yes, many are weary of the institution. The branch Padre, a former Anglican priest, started a community church after running up against church politics not only in the Anglican church but also the Presbyterian church. His congregation is larger than any of the other denominations and many are people who haven't attended in years because of church politics.
