The Great Following Purge
Hi Everyone!
I wanted to wish all who celebrate it a very Happy Thanksgiving Day.
I am also letting you know
that I am taking a portion of the day
to unfollow all of you.It's NOT personal!It's nothing that you did!

Now before you all get your panties in a bunch, let me explain WHY I do this.

Find new-to-me people and rediscover old friends.
Many of you know that the people you follow show up on your feed.
What if no one showed up on your feed? Where would you go to find decent content?
I have personally not looked at the trending tag since it's first week of inception.
I do not look at the "hot" or "active" tab either.
What does that leave me with?

organic curation efforts
Starting from scratch
I personally believe it's healthy to make things from scratch - like baking.
By purging everyone and starting from scratch, it's easier to re-connected with the people whom you have common interests. It's a great reminder as to WHY we got connected in the first place!
I look at is as manually tending to my Steemit garden. Sometimes you have to trim it back to make it grow healthier and stronger. I am a self-proclaimed Community Advocate which means I need to dig into the community, right?
Obviously I will follow back my personal friends and my favorite Steemit peeps. To which you may be wonderingWhy unfollow them at all?
Two Reasons: Integrity and Posterity
Integrity - I said I'm unfollowing the lot and I shall be a woman of my word.
Posterity - my actions are going to be on the blockchain. Let historians contemplate if it was a good or bad exercise.
My goal is also to find newbies with enthusiasm and drive to build and grow their Steemit community.
I'm also going to pay special attention to the people who leave comments on my blog posts because they are the foundation of my tribe.

It's not for everyone
The Great Following Purge is not for everyone. It takes time and effort to build a solid foundation. I hope you will consider this practice every couple of months/quarterly/annually.
I would not be personally offended if I was unfollowed because frankly, if you don't like my humor, art, stories, or guides then I have no business being on your feed.
It's really that simple...

I just try to be sincere and up-vote quality when I see it. I'm still finding my way here, but for what it's worth, I regularly comment on and re-steem half a dozen people of which you are one.

I've finally swung back to respond! Thank you for the list of people! That is going to be helpful. I've actually gone through Steemwhales.com for new to me people to gauge rep score to post count and see how active they are on their blog page. I've also got to re-follow my witnesses so I know what they're up to. Those votes are subject to change too - I think we need a post about that! Hm. That may be my next one. Oh, and of course I've re-followed you. LOL

This is a great idea, i hope you find some new steemians to follow in the process.
I've got my tried and true people who will automatically be re-followed...you, for example - but the last time I did this I found an amazing group of new-to-me people. I think the fun is in discovery!

I did a small purge a month ago (only of accounts that hadn't been active lately which I had followed some time ago).
Once in a while it feels pretty fresh to do it and get a new feed page for a couple weeks, but I do understand your idea of a complete purge too. I can't wait for an option that easier indicates which users you have followed when looking at hot/new section. Would make it easier to find new users you haven't followed yet. But for now I think I'm sticking with manually following new users I run into while curating like I usually have. :)
@acidyo, that's about as organic as you can get. When I see a really good post on the NEW tab, I almost always check to see what else they've written. Unfortunately (yet truthfully) I am a resteem snob. If I have to scroll through a ton of resteems to find their personal content, no matter how good it is, I usually skip following them. I admit it. Resteem Snob - that's me. :oP
I agree, I find that annoying as well. But I am almost 90% sure they were working on a different tab for re-steems on github I think. That would make it so much easier!
Hey btw! Do you use Streemian?
I really hope the next hardfork includes a separate tab for resteemed items. Maybe then I won't have such an adverse reaction to them? LOL

Um... Technically yes, but I've fallen out of tradition the last 2 years. LOL Last year my son was visiting from NY so we had Thanksgiving dinner a week early. He had be back to work for Black Friday. This year we were personally invited by the owner of a Chinese food restaurant for their free buffet. My turkey gets cooked on Sunday when hubby has the day off. LOL I am thankful I did not have to cook today! :D
For now, I'm still following. Maybe someday I'll unfollow. ☺ so, it's ok.

I've been meaning to do this myself for a while now. a lot o people I'm following seem to have got lost.
Nods head. A lot of people I've been following either dropped off completely, are on vacation, or are drowned out by all the other stuff in my feed. It takes a bit of effort, but I think it's worth it to rediscover my tribe. I may do this every other month or quarterly.
Think I'll go ahead and do it next time I get a good block of a few hours during the day free.

Hi @jlufer - You are definitely being re-followed. The exercise is really more for me, but I highly recommend it for everyone to try. One thing I told my kids was to start every day fresh. Let go of yesterday's turmoil and deal with it using a fresh lens.
This is my version of a Steemit "fresh lens"
I do frequently, I stop following some and I take new ones, if you see my wall will see that always round the 70 members, thank you very much for the suggestion
