Cooking-Lesson No. 9 "How to Cook Budae Jjigea/Army Base Stew"
Hello everyone!
It's been a short while since I started my #cooking-lesson content, I was amazed because I've already made eight cooking lesson posts so far and most of them are very easy to made/cook, I hope that my cooking-lesson posts helps you to find ideal recipes that fits your taste.
And for my 9th cooking lesson I will show you how to make a special Korean dish "The Budae Jjigea/Army Base Stew). This food was originated in South Korea with American influence because Budae Jjigea common ingridients are made of American processed meat products like ham, sausage, hotdog, etc..., it is said that this food was a scarce after a long korean war and because of the food shortage that time Korean people use those surplus processed meat from the American military base and that's the reason why this food was very special and why this food was named Army base stew/Budae Jjigea.
How to Make Budae-Jjigea
It is literally easy to make and I think anyone who's interested in cooking this can make it easily, you just need to prepare all the ingridients then cooking is not a big problem Lol..
Ingridients:
ham 100g (sliced)
spam 100g (sliced)
sausage 3pcs (sliced)
pork 100g (sliced bite size)
baked beans/canned pork and beans
soft tofu
sliced onion 1pc
chopped garlic 4 cloves
cabbage 50-100g
kimchi 100g
chili paste(gochujang) 3 spoon
water/meat stock
cheese 30g
beef powder/dasida 1 spoon
chili flakes 1 spoon
rice cake (optional)
noodles (optional)
Procedure:
Once you complete the main ingridients, we just need to put all the ingridients together on a cooking wok..
then put enough amount of meat stock or if you don't have any meat stock we can just simply put water.
then put all the spices like beef powder and chili flakes or you can add salt if you want more salty taste or sugar if you want a to add a little sweet taste.
then we need to boil our budae-jjigea for at least 3-5 mins then you can add rice cake and noodles if you want.
At last! My Budae-Jjigea was done and ready to eat, it is perfect to eat while it's hot and also it is very good to eat with rice..
And that's all very easy right? This kind of food is also very fexible you just need the main ingridients like Chili paste and kimchi then you can add whatever ingridients are available in your kitchen as long as the ingridients you add doesn't affect the real taste of Budae-Jjigea..

I follow youtuber @Maangchi to learn from her how to cook authentic korean food. I saved recipe of Budae-Jjigea for a while but haven't had chance to cook. I prefer adding more spam and a little bit of noodles. hahaa.
Yeah, adding spam would be more better and also try to add more cheese ^^
I am coming :D, love this delicious dish!
