Welcome to @steembasicincome's fifteenth member interview!
To provide more interaction within Steem Basic Income (SBI), we are continuing our interviews with prominent members of SBI! We hope to bring a greater sense of community, get to know our members, and gain a better understanding of why Steemians are choosing to be a part of SBI.
Writer Intro: @wesphilbin
Greetings, again fellow Steemians, I am @wesphilbin; This will be my seventh interview for the Steem Basic Income group. I have interviewed the following Steemians:
@eturnerx
@ecoinstant
@jonnyla08
@rishi556
@tattoodjay
@mariannewest
For this interview, I asked @solominer if he would like to participate in an SBI interview. I was pleased that he agreed, as I have loved his photography as well as positive vibe for some time. So... let's see about the awesome that is @solominer, shall we?
Subject Intro: @solominer
The first time I saw one of the photographs that @solominer captures, I was amazed! Let's peek at his Steemit profile:
Working with interesting technology: blockchain, IPFS, infrared and ultraviolet photography/videos
If you are wondering what all that means, and how it relates to the Steem Basic Income initiative, I hope to show you in this interview...
I had so many questions that I wanted to ask @solominer, and wanted to be sure "not" to get caught up in his amazing photography (not that this would have been a bad thing, mind you) and find a balance of Steem Basic Income as well as learning about the way he takes these amazing photographs! So I started off with what I feel is the important part of all my interviews... the people behind the names...
@wesphilbin: So my friend, would you mind telling us a little about the awesome you? Give our readers that may not know about you a glimpse behind the curtain if you will?
@solominer: I live near the foot of the Appalachian Mountains in Georgia. Though I was born in a big city, as I get older I'm more drawn to the seclusion of rural living and homesteading. I try to go camping a few times a year, bow and rifle hunt during the seasons for Deer, Grouse, Squirrel, Turkey, Swine and fish. My background is in computers, working in the Information Technology field for a decade. As a hobby I tinker with my computers, doing overclocking of various components, modifying operating systems and applications. I got involved with Bitcoin in 2013 and every year since then I have gotten more involved in Crypto and decentralized projects in general. The Global surveillance disclosures Snowden revealed was a big moment in my life and leaving mainstream platforms and embracing new technologies like Proof of Work, Proof of Stake (Including DPoS) and Zero-knowledge proof methods of cryptography has been a big part of my life for the last five plus years.
@wesphilbin: That is indeed, quite an introduction! I was working towards my B.S. in IT year's ago, but never finished. Between computers, photography, and outdoor life, it sounds like you have a very exciting lifestyle, my friend! So I am curious... what brought you to Steem?
@solominer: I wanted to blog without worries of censorship or deplatforming, not that my work is controversial. But if I ever wanted to change direction, knowing I can without worries of being blocked, demonetized or told its against the ever changing guidelines of the site. Of course a whale can downvote me, or a group of people could. But I am far more concerned about being blocked by a biased moderator, or by mass flagging on these centralized platforms like Twitter, YouTube, Facebook etcetera, than some random whale getting upset over a post I made on the Steem or other blockchains. And since joining some other discord crypto-centric communities I've decentralized my content even more using my own DTube IPFS server for my videos I make and host my images on the LBRY blockchain using a Dapp called Spee.ch using Dapps on the Steem blockchain and running my own has been alot of fun, DTube was the first for me, and really brought me alot of interest to Steem.
@wesphilbin: I think it is safe to say, you are quite experienced, when it comes to the various ways of interacting... both on Steem related blockchains, as well as a few other's. So this makes me curious; in talking about all the different ways that you interact on the various blockchains, how did you learn about @steembasicincome?
"I kept seeing SBI units being rewarded for contests on Steem, and after reading some posts on Steem Basic Income it seems to be the most legitimate way to delegate and earn rewards for posting regularly..."
@solominer: I kept seeing SBI units being rewarded for contests on Steem, and after reading some posts on Steem Basic Income it seems to be the most legitimate way to delegate and earn rewards for posting regularly. And how you can gift others SBI units is a real cool idea. After hearing Joseph Savage speak about it on a Discord radio show I decided to delegate to Steem Basic Income.
Interviewer note: @solominer wanted me to mention @shadowspub and the The Ramble Discord Group ... he explained, "A raffle is done during PYPT and I've earned some units by presenting posts. SBI is given out on every show and it encouraged me to delegate to SBI".
@wesphilbin: I couldn't help but ask about your photography talents... your photos are simply amazing @solominer... would you mind telling our readers about what gear you use, how you take these photos, and maybe what compelled you to create them?
@solominer: Thanks a lot! I am really glad I got my camera modified for full spectrum photography. I acquired the camera from a co-worker at the time as he upgraded to a GH4, I paid him half with cash and half with DASH . He sold me just the camera body and sent it off to Life Pixel days later for its full spectrum modification. I learned about full spectrum specifically watching a TV show called Ghost Adventures. They captured some interesting and possibly paranormal results with the camera... honestly I have not gone ghost hunting with my full spectrum camera but hope to in the future. When I found Steem, it was a match made in heaven. Users on the platform really like the unique looks of the photos I take, and it motivates me to do more of that kind of photography. I really enjoy talking about the science of the photos, how the plants reflect the Infrared light so much they appear bright white. Or how the sky in Ultraviolet has a deep cobalt blue that almost looks otherworldly. As for my gear, I use mostly Olympus and SLR Magic lenses. For more details check out my gear I am shooting with in every IR and UV post right under the first photo.
Interviewer note: I won't begin to understand many things that are involved with this type of photography, but as @solominer mentioned, please do hop on over to his Steem main page... check out one of his posts, and give it a peek, won't you? This is after all, one of the fundementals behind SBI... Community. For example... the above image was created with the following gear:
@wesphilbin: I gave a quick preview to our viewers, so they could see what you were talking about... in regards to your gear, lenses, settings, et cetera @solominer, on one of your blog posts... I did not however, share anything else... let their curiousity lead them, yes? Anyway, you sure have made a lasting impression on me with all of your knowledge and information regarding blockchain, to photography. Shifting gears again; is there anything you'd like to share with our reader's, any thoughts or shout-outs?
@solominer: I want to give a shout out to the groups and interaction I have gotten by being part of Steem. Persons such as @shadowspub, @carrieallen, @freedompoint, @crimsonclad, @makinstuff, and @pennsif offering great shows to listen to and participate in. To get the full Steem experience, I need to be part of Discord groups focused on Steem. Such as Helpie, The Minnow Support Project, The Alliance, Steem Basic Income, The Ramble Disord, Homesteaders Co-Op, Actifit, Innerblocks, Qurator, Natural Medicine, DIYtube, Steem Terminal, OneLoveDtube, SteemSilverGold, C-squared, Curie, D-Cooperation, OCDB, and many more. These groups have reminded me how strong the Steem community is, well over a million users at this point and still growing. Besides Bitcointalk which has 2.6 million users, I do not know of any bigger crypto communities than Steem. And the groups, great people, and Dapps really shows people are eager and it keeps growing.
@wesphilbin: What a wonderful collection of communities my friend..I am sure they feel fortunate, to have another individual giving praise... and in the same breath, as you have shown, we are fortunate to have these communities to interact with. Along these same positive wavelenghts, what are your feelings in regards to the Steem Basic Income initiative?
"Many of these delegation pools like Steem Basic Income and others may act as foundations for different causes. And with upvotes worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars that can change alot of lives..."
@solominer: I really like SBI and hope long term as the price of Steem grows the power of the Steem Basic Income account grows in power too. It's one of the most delegated to Steem accounts, and I think delegation along with a future high price of Steem will work in ways we cannot even imagine right now. Many of these delegation pools like Steem Basic Income and others may act as foundations for different causes. And with upvotes worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars that can change alot of lives.
For the final thoughts on this interview, I asked @solominer, what his thoughts were, for the future of not only SBI, but also the blockchain in general. This is what he had to say...
"I think SBI has the potential to use all of that delegation for some great causes, especially if Steem returns to all time highs. I think many groups on Steem can achieve some real good when their pooled upvote is worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars. And in many countries such a single upvote can be truly life changing. As for the blockchain in general, I am completely amazed by the progress I have already seen in regards to network effect in the last six years. Going forward, as long as chains can scale I have great hopes for decentralized ledger technology. The next few years it will be interesting to see what the powers that be try to do in regards to cryptocurrency. As the saying goes "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win”. I think we are past the first two, and now some are fighting to stop crypto in congress that are in bed with VISA, American Express or Mastercard. Though I have a feeling its inevitable decentralized networks will prevail."
Interview Conclusion
Fifteen total interviews for the @steembasicincome Group... and my seventh to date, as a writer for the SBI Group... With each Steemian I interview, I see a similar vibe my friends... sharing the positive effects of promoting community, a greater sense of why these Steemians are choosing to participate in the Steem Basic Income initiative... for not only themselves and their interaction on the block-chain, but also sharing the understanding of engagement, by sponsoring others. I thank you for sticking around, and reading yet another interview highlighting a prominant user involved in the Steem Basic Income initiative. Appreciate your continued support, involvment, and community interaction.
Who will we see on the next Steem Basic Income interview?
Until then my friends...
Wes
