The Chelsea Market is a shopping mall situated between the 9th & 10th Avenues and the 15th & 16th Streets in New York City.

The building gets its name from the Chelsea neighborhood which is part of the borough of Manhattan, where it is located.

In 1913, the Oreo cookie was invented there by the New York Biscuit Company.

The company had merged into the National Biscuit Company in 1898, at a time of major consolidation for the American bakery businesses.

It was in 1971 that the National Biscuit Company adopted the name Nabisco.

Now, no Nabisco biscuits are made in the area anymore, but people will find a wide variety of things to eat in the food hall of the market.

Some other occupants of this commercial household are media and broadcasting enterprises such as MLB.com, EMI Music Publishing, Oxygen, the Food Network, Google, and its YouTube subsidiary.

As for the market per se, it opened in 1997.

The television shows Emeril Live and Iron Chef America used to be filmed inside this facility.

Also, key tenants renting a space there include:

• a Buddakan restaurant serving New American Asian cuisine
• a Davidovich Bagels shop wholesaling Davidovich Bakery's unique "hand-rolled" bagel
• an Anthropologie boutique, a clothing retailer part of URBN brands

The High Line is a linear and greenway park that uses the metallic structure which held the elevated​ New York Central Railroad when it was still operating.

It passes through the Chelsea Market and has been converted into a rail trail since 2009.

Chelsea Market was one of the destinations for the New York City three-day guided tour I joined in 2012.

I was definitely​ charmed by the factory-like style of the place!
