[animedrawingchallenge] 萬聖節來到東方 Does Jack know we also celebrating Halloween now (the Nightmare Before Christmas 怪誕城之夜)

This is my entry of @htliao's Anime Character Draw Challenge. My character is Jack in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

If you read my previous post, I visited Ocean Park. In the part, there are many preparation of the coming Halloween.

Yes! Although in Hong Kong there is no tradition of having Halloween. But in recently years, it becomes a trend!

At this period, the whole Ocean Park will become a hunting park. There are temporary huntings house in different styles, both East and West. The staffs will dress up and scared the visitors everywhere.

It becomes my idea of drawing Jack.

這是我的Anime Character Draw Challenge作品，是怪誕城之夜（聖誕夜驚魂）的主角Jack。
雖然香港沒有過萬聖節的傳統，但在這個節日開派對，或者上街玩變裝已經成為一個潮流。
在上一篇提到我在上星期天去了海洋公園，在園中，已經有好些地方在準備著萬聖節特備節目的工程了。大約在萬聖節的前幾個星期開始，晚上的海洋公園會變身成為鬼怪樂園。有古今中外各種鬼屋，工作人員也裝扮起來到處嚇遊人。
這令我想起了Jack，所以這次就畫他喇～

I like TNBC very much and I appreciate the characters, script, music etc.

The most adorable is animation! The technique used in this movie is called stop-motion.

The most familiar skill we know is frame by frame drawing (in fact it is out-dated and now usually use software instead of human drawing).

我很喜歡這套動畫電影，它的角色設計、故事、音樂等等。
而最令我著迷的是它的定格動畫！我們最常接觸到的算是手繪的逐格動畫（但現在都很少人肉手繪了，電腦替我們省了勞力）。

In stop-motion, imagine there is a set, and then we had the model with joints or clay model etc.

Then, set the first post of the model, take a photo, move slightly of the model, take a photo. Looping this steps until the whole motion is finished.

For the parts of model which have no joint, the animator need to make the part separately. Like drawing frame by frame. It is a super time consuming and need god like patience is needed.

定格動畫大概就是在場景模型裡，放上公仔模型，動一點點拍一張照片，再動一點拍一張，直至整套動作完成。公仔本身可以是有關節的，或者是一點點揑出下一個動態變化。
這…雖要神一般的耐性和細心才能完成。

There is a little story behind making of TNBC and make me think of making this topic.

After the success of short film Vincent, Tim Burton wanted to make TMBC come true. The idea and story of TMBC has been in Burton's mind for a long long time. He also wrote poems and drew concept arts.

However, the boss, Disney, did not buy his idea and stalled the project. It is because the theme and style was "dark" and not so suitable to the company image.

This was happened before 1984 when Burton leave Disney. Burton did not give up and kept this story in his mind. Finally Disney, in 1990, accepted Jack Skellington.

In fact, the director is Henry Selick, not Burton. Burton even did not take part in the production much because he had his commitment to Batman Returns. Anyway, it does not matter, TNBC is a remarkable and one of the best of Burton's movie.

From the idea to the start of production, it spent 20 years. Even though reject by a big boss, Burton still worked on it and believe in his idea. So, we had this great animation movie:)

在這裡分享一個《怪誕城之夜》的小故事。在短片Vincent的成功後，添布頓想開拍他構思多年的《怪》片。他可寫和畫了不少詩和意念圖呢。
不過，他的老闆—迪士尼，就不太喜歡這個故事，叫停了計劃。因為它有點黑暗，不符合公司的形象。
1984年，添布頓離開了迪士尼。但這個故事還一直在他腦海裡，而他也不想只把它當成一個念頭。
直到1990年，迪士尼終於開竅。不過添布頓因有蝙蝠俠片約在身，所以改由戰友 Henry Selick接手當導演。
所以正式來說添不是導演呢，而他也沒有參與很多中期動畫製作。話雖如此，《怪》的誕生和靈魂都是添所創造的。
前前後後，花了二十年的時間。縱使被業界大老闆反對也沒有放棄，堅持自己的想法，我們才能看到這麼有趣又精彩的動畫！

This time I did not use watercolour, lol. I drew it monochrome and tried different fine pens and markers.
這次沒有用水彩（笑）。用了單色調，嘗試了一下描線筆和麥克筆。

It is a bit dull to draw exact the same with reference. Have a fun with Jack and Steem :P
不甘於只是臨摹，所以加點Steem的元素～

Outline and filling 勾線和上色

Chinese calligraphy pen can make a random thickness of the black strips. Time saving and also natural randomness then fine pen.
書法水筆來畫 Jack禮服的條紋。壓一點力畫出隨機的粗度，比只用描線筆，書法水筆既自然又方便。

Shadow 陰影

No.0 Natural Grey Marker for the shadow part. The moon is the light source as back light. No.0 works nice that keeps the white color of Jack and Zero who are in very light grey (almost white).
0號的自然灰來做陰影。最白的部份是月亮，是光源，所以主角變成背光了。0號能夠畫出陰影而又能保留Jack和Zero那近乎白的淺灰～

Song in TNBC What’s this?


Jack went to the Christmas Town, and found warmness and happiness here. This experience caused a hijacking Christmas. However, who knows nowadays, the Eastern habitants also started to celebrate the Halloween, lol.

I also love the music in TNBC very much. It is also a regular rerun choice in the Christmas time on TV.

I had visited the Ocean Park Halloween twice only. By drawing this challenge, I want to go Ocean Park Halloween Night again ^^;

Jack看到聖誕節的歡樂，引發騎劫聖誕的故事。他大概也沒想到，現在連東方都開始慶祝萬聖節了呢！
《怪》的音樂也非常好聽的，跟畫面也非完美地配合。話說《怪》也是聖誕節電視重播的常客。
我只去過兩次海洋公園的萬聖節特別場。畫著畫著，好想再去啊^^;
