This August, there'll be a lot of interesting lots during the sale RM Sotheby's Monterey Sale. After the first Porsche ever built Type 64, a Jaguar Pirana by Bertone, and a Facel-Vega FVS... today it's about this stunning 1990 DeTomaso Pantera Si.

History of the DeTomaso Pantera

De Tomaso was an Italian car company founded by Alejandro de Tomaso in Modena (Italy) in 1959 in order to built racing cars. The company was bought by Ford in 1971. The DeTomaso Pantera (panther in Italian) is their most famous car produced between 1971 and 1992 for a total of more 7,000 examples.

The DeTomaso Pantera Si was produced in 1990 with a new Ford engine and a new design by Marcello Gandini (Italian desginer known for the Lamborghini Miura and Countach) to try to boost the brand. Only 41 examples were built before its successor, the De Tomaso Guarà was introduced in 1993. This will also be a failure and the end of DeTomaso.

Specification

That is to say if the 41 copies of the Pantera SI (or Pantera 200 or even Pantera 90 in England), manufactured between 1990 and 1993, make this model a real rarity. Especially since 2 copies will serve as a crash test and will be destroyed: only 39 copies will be put into circulation.
