1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight
In May, at Monaco, this 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS will be heading to the auction through RM Sotheby's for more than $1,000,000 (it was the price last year).
History 911 Carrera RS
Porsche launched in 1972 the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (named after the Carrera Panamericana race, and RS stand for Renn Sport (Racing in German), with a bigger and lighter engine. In a first time, it was produced 500 examples to obtain the homologation for the competition, but it was a huge success, so the production was extended to 1,590. It remains the sport car par excellence.
Technical Specification
Only 200 Lightweight examples were constructed, a more competition oriented than the touring model. The 911 Carrera RS Lightweight has 100 kilograms less, this is why Lightweight.
- 2687cc SOHC air-cooled horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine producing 210 hp,
- five-speed manual transmission,
- independent front and rear suspension,
- four-wheel disc brakes.
