DIY - Stealth Water Methanol Injection System [SH2OMI] - Update 28.01.18

in #cars7 years ago

Hello Steem-Meisters,

A bit of a breather from the prepping posts and back to the SH2OMI project. Since my last post, the last two main components have arrived to build the kit up.

The first of these parts was a bulkhead hose barb connector (for the boost switch feed) that I only managed to source from China and that's why it's taken over 2 weeks to arrive. I've modified it slightly (cut one of the barbs off) so the intrusion into the intake airflow is minimal.

The second part to arrive this week was the 12v relay that I ordered after help from you guys regarding a revision to make a viable electrical circuit.

I've temporarily fitted it loosely to one of the pump bolts (they still all require cutting short) and I reckon it will probably stay in the same place when everything is finally bolted down. As you can see, I've going with red connectors for 'power' cabling and blue for 'signal or switching' wiring.

Any hoo, back to the bulkhead connector. I drilled out a 6mm hole in the intake pipe and then heated up a screwdriver tip to red-hot, working it in the hole to make it more rounded and smooth out the surfaces. I also rounded the hex point surfaces on the connector (and nut) so they don't cut into the rubber when tightening. Once I was happy with the test fit, I removed the nuts on both of the bulkhead connectors and applied thread-lock. The pictures below were taken prior to using the thread-lock.

I do have one concern though, I think I may have placed the misting bulkhead (6mm push-fit type) connector too close to the end of the pipe. It may interfere with fitting onto the intercooler hardpipe. If it's only 1-2mm then I could grind off some of the nut, otherwise I'll have to use the spare intake pipe.

Making progress still looking good so far

Thanks @chris.scustoms
It's a slow, methodical path but I'll get there ;)

btw, once I get my VP back up to 100% power (should be today). I'll return to my pro-active upvoting regime all being well.
