WHY YOU LACK DISCIPLINE?

in #busy7 years ago (edited)

Procrastination is one of your biggest obstacles to achieving what you want to achieve. We may never fulfill our wants because of lack of concentrated and strategic effort. We use excuses such as having no time. I would say a high percentage of people our not utilizing time correctly, wasting it on irrelevant things and not maximizing it.

I’ve done this for the longest time but now everyday counts and I continue to strive to maximize my time.

Watch the video below

Where is our time being used... Watching TV, browsing Facebook, going out to party?
If you were to spend all that time on the most productive things for your goals, you would easily 10x your productivity. This comes down to procrastination, energy focus, and lack of discipline.

When you sit down and get to work, do you focus intently or does your mind begin to wonder?

One problem that could be causing this is the work you are doing is boring and unrewarding. If the work consisted of watching your favorite tv show and eating your most delicious snack, you probably wouldn’t procrastinate.

Stress and Anxiety

When we feel anxious and stressed, our mind wants to turn to the source of that stress and focus on that – it doesn’t allow us to engage in the things we need to do. This is why we’ll often find ourselves killing time by browsing the web: it’s a little like burying your head in the sand and hoping the problem will go away. Ultimately, this is an example of you not being in control of your own mind.

Energy

Often, we are simply too tired to do the thing that we need to do. Sometimes we lack energy and will-power to such a degree that we can actually procrastinate before it’s time for bed! We find ourselves watching TV or browsing Facebook when all we want to do is sleep!

Discipline actually requires energy. Whenever we make any choice, making the harder choice actually requires energy. This is why we also tend to become less disciplined as it gets later in the day. Our will power is fatigued at this point, so we’ll often take the easy route.

Tomorrow I discuss how to end procrastination. Why discipline is so important and how to gain unstoppable amounts!

You are such a great mentor. I really enjoy your posts. Because I am an olden golden goodie I believe a lot of the procrastination has become rampant as technology and social networking has evolved. I feel we have become a lazy society because nearly everything is at our fingertips. I live in Canada and you don't have to even leave you house to shop or get fast food you can order it online then call Uber (cab company to deliver). In a lot of cases you can work from home don't even need to get dressed can stay in your PJ's if you want. Again I think we have to recognize just how lazy our minds and body have become which leads to procrastination to do anything that actually required an effort or energy. Thanks for sharing and the reminder not to procrastinate I am getting off steem and taking my doggy for a walk out in the cold. Thanks for the nudge.

Off topic but I noticed your Southern Comfort poster in the background and it reminded me of the first time I ever drank at 19 on my honeymoon and my hubby gave me shots of Southern Comfort he went to the washroom and couldn't find me and I had slid off my chair like jello and was sitting under the table. That was the first and last time I drank Southern Comfort and my first life experience on everything in moderation.

Olden golden goodie...I love that!! :)

I completely agree with you, too much at our fingertips, so many distractions, mounts of information and pleasures. When I read on how life was many years ago, people had to work for the smallest enjoyments but this did wonders for creating patterns of getting things done.

I live in Canada too, Toronto. Where are you about?

Lol! The southern comfort photo has been here for so long. Haven't drank it in a very long time. I remember it being pretty delicious though, sweet like candy. I use to drink not much but when I did, it was in excess. That is what taught me to do things in moderation. Anything almost is not good in excess, especially things that are harmful for our bodies or minds.

Loved this comment @donnab, you give me even more motivation!!

Being disciplined 24/7 is never easy. It requires constant effort on a daily basis for a long time in order to create an habit of working hard every single day.

It’s possiboe to achieve a good level of productivity at least 8 hours per day, and even more, but we must not lose our focus when working otherwise time will just slip out of our hands, the day will be gone and we haven’t acomplish anything.

Good topic! When I feel like I'm procrastinating, I try to prioritize what I feel like is the most important thing to accomplish. Checklists help me to stay on track too .. but it is easy to get distracted online.... especially on Steemit!

Yea that is always great. List your priorities from most important down and it helps to knock them all out and fast! Steemit is apart of my regiment so it's productivity as far as I'm concerned. :) Thanks for commenting @jorlauski!

More great tips on successful living. combine our two blogs and we have all bases covered! maybe...lol

Yes, procrastination is something that I'm working to do less of. Especially now that I see my time flying by here on steemit. Thanks for the great article! -Dan

Seems to be a theme here on Steemit. Connecting with people and expanding my education is only a positive and productive here on Steemit for me.

Thanks for stopping by Dan!

I think procrastination is a very good tool for thinning the herd. Most people could do great things, they just don't because they don't feel like doing. That is what separates successful people from the unsuccessful ones.

Yes for sure. If we train our minds we can make the most of our lives.
