Ok, I am Getting Back To Affiliate Marketing!

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

A few weeks back I quit my day job.. There were many reasons for doing that, but overall it felt like a good decision. So, now that I am jobless again I guess I have to restart my affiliate marketing "bussiness" that I quit almost 2 years ago..

If you have no idea what affiliate marketing is then here's a short description I pulled out of my head:

Affiliate marketing is a way for people who lack the charisma, creativity, funds or whatever to start their own product to make money online. So, instead they promote the products of others and get a cut for each successful sale they make. There are literally all kinds of products you can promote. Food, supplements, medical equipment, furniture, seeds, computers, cars, digital products, penis enlargement devices, breast enlargement creams, toilet paper. Think of anything, chances are there is a program you can apply to promote that and get a cut. Whether the product actually works and the price is fair is of course a totally different discussion.

And of course there are literally thousands of methods to promote said products, like youtube videos, facebook ads, twitter or whatever.

As for me, the one method I had the most success with in the past was by creating my own websites and doing SEO (search engine optimization) for them. Of course, that's just the summary. This one sentence actually entails hundreds if not thousands of hours that are needed before you actually start making regular sales and having a stable income you can actually live with. But after you reach a point, doing some maintenance here and there is usually more than enough to give you a nice, relatively passive income..

Do I like affiliate marketting? Nah, actually it's one of the most boring jobs if you ask me. This is one of the reasons I stopped it. But it comes with other perks.. The good think is that I don't have to start from zero. I already have a site from two years back when I stopped, with over 50 generic articles, and 5 articles that promote products and actually make money. So, I have a good start and most of the grunt work is ready. I am pretty sure in 4-5 months I can bring it back to its "peak", 2 years ago, when it was making about 2k $ a month. Since then I totally stopped working on it and sales have been gradually going down.. But still, it makes something despite being abandoned. Here's my amazon earnings for June for that particular site:

As you can see the last 23 days I have made about 60 $. Nothing too fancy, but let me repeat that this is a site I literally haven't touched for 2 years! And 60 $ / month may seem depressing but it's actually a very very good start.

So, what's my plan? For starters I will search for any new content related to my site that I have missed these last 2 years. One of the things google loves is fresh content. That particular site is on a specific niche with a slightly scientific angle so I am sure I will find a few new research  publications to write about. After that comes the link building part. Link building is again another important thing when it comes to driving traffic to your own websites. If you want to be high on google and hence get traffic from it you need two things:

  1. Good content
  2. Good backlinks

They both are important and they both complement each other.  And here's a question I now have for your:

What would you like to read in these posts?

I plan to make these kinds of posts on a regular basis. One reason is to keep track ofmy progress so that I stay motivated. The other one is of course the rewards from the posts themselves which are a nice secondary income. Furthermore, these posts don't require any research from my side so they are easy and quick to write so it's a win win any way I see it.

But! I understand nobody will be interested in reading something along the lines "Day 25, today I made one quadrilion bucks in commissions and wrote 2 articles for my site". So, what I plan for these posts is to break them into two parts. One part, about my personal progress and one part where I will teach you how to do something, e.g. how to make your first site, what is off-page seo, how to build backlinks, how to write a review for a product or something like that. So, is there something particular you would like to see?

I guess if I get no feedback and nobody is interested in this I will just follow the flow :D

My sister-in-law is responsible for quality control in the food industry. Currently, she is in the process of changing her employer. Sometimes I do not understand how she does this kind of work.
I'll follow your work and tell my sister-in-law, maybe this will change her life somehow.

Worst case scenario, she will learn a few useful things, like making a simple website for herself :D

I want to ask you, what did you need this job for? You have a good opportunity to earn on Steemit. Why did you spend your time on this job, if you could just make publications here? Are you not sure about the future of Steemit?

Well, I don't see steemit as a real job, more like a nice extra income. I wouldn't never feel financially secure, at least not before I become a steemit millionaire or something, which is probably never :D

LOL - very well written! I like your attitude and explanation of affiliate marketing a lot.

I am actually having no interest in passive income. I know, that sounds insane. I talk about this matter quite a lot with my man ---actually he could have written this article of yours.

and then ... all income is kind of passive which is not earned through labor as gardening and fencing and digging the earth or the waters or whatever its needed to feed and to have shelter. My income is your income ... so to speak.

Follow the chains of income and you might end at the start of our universe.
A header could be: "How bear poo provides you with passive income".

HaHa! Sorry, I am not really helpful in here.

It's ok. You made me smile so you were more than helpful :D

Hi, I'm no great fan of affiliate marketing, but I think this may help many users who are struggling with writing articles.

Thank you, I really appreciate it! I am not a huge fan either but a man has to make a living and for me right now it's one of the options I have XD

Sure, and seeing the comments, it seems like an aspect of the net that many have not ventured into. Good luck with it!

As I don't have a day job anyway this seems interesting, do you need to create a company to do this?

No you don't but maybe dependingon your country it's better to create one for tax purposes :) Just curious, if you don't mind, how do you make a living?

Right now, I dont :) Just living on savings. Work is looming though... :(

I can totally relate, lol
Been in IM for 15 years, doing affiliate marketing for the last 10 years or so.
I was so sick and tired of promoting the same, recycled products, writing the same squeeze pages and email series over and over again that I gave up on it... I really needed a break :0)
It's been two years now - still got my 25k mailing lists.

I'm recovering from surgery at the moment, but in just a few months I'll need to choose: or I go back to my teaching job (which I like, but is very heavy), or I pick up my IM biz again.

Every once in a while, I miss it, though. When I see an announcement for a cool WP plugin or a nice piece of software in my mailbox, I can tell I miss it. After all those years, I got bored, but it did make me good money. I know I'll probably go back one day... ;0)

Hehe, we have somewhat a similar story. The first time I tried affiliate marketting was 12 years ago after a serious surgery! Heck, I miss those times... It was so much easier back then XD

I completely agree that it was a lot easier back then, lol. Or maybe I was just more motivated... ??

I am definitely interested in the how-tos. I do have a website and have some affiliate links up. But I really need to get serious about it.

Stay tuned then. Hopefully you will learn something new :P

I am always up for learning new stuff. I deffinatly don't know how to do what you are talking about so i would love to learn it.

I am currently working on making over my own art site and was considering starting to post about what I am trying to do with it and the progress. It can be a lot of boring entering data and resizing imagery for me (I'm an artist so I make the images I then have to apply to the products). But, seeing your post makes me think I should post about the progress of it.

Also, I have been dreading the SEO stuff, so any info you share about how to best utilize that would be wonderful! Good luck!

You've inspired quite a conversation! I took a quick peek at your Steemit blog. You will be able to easily do all the things I suggested. I'll be shocked if you aren't already incorporating most of the ideas.

You already do something I didn't mention which is to include people in the process. I think it might help people have a slight sense of ownership before they can even own it. I'm guessing though. What do your buying customers say about the sneak peeks?

Hmm, in your case I think SEO would be a waste of time. If I was an artist I would focus on first making a good looking site to show my artwork and then focus on building social profiles on facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Pinterest (steemit of course) to promote my site and work. :)

Promoting on social media is good but it can take a long time to reach your goal..i think seo is better.

Honestly I can't think how you could do SEO on a site promoting paintings art or something related. What keywords would you target? I think people buying art online is because they saw something on a social media site and thought " I got to have this" and not because they googled " cool painting for my house or whatever"... Of course I may be wrong 😂

Guest posting ( free or even if you have to pay something) on popupar art related websites are something I would also try out :D

Teach me how to do this crap! I want internet money too. You know what they say tho... don’t quit your day job.

;)

Ok, well I guess the first step is to choose a niche (topic) for your site. Noted for the next post :D

niche (topic)

You’re gonna teach me English now too? ;p

Joking aside the topic can be anything? Or it has to be a product?

But in some cases, a site just for a specific product can do wonders, but usually these sites work with paid traffic, e.g. facebook ads.

Well, you can just choose a product or a generic category. But going for a more general approach (and then creating a subpage for that particular product) gives you much much more flexibility and options to make money as you will be able to promote other products as well. And for my method (which is to get traffic from google) a generic site works better. :)

What i like to read huh ? When moon sir ??

Ποτέ. Θα πεθάνεις φτωχός με τα σακούλια γεμάτα

Okey bye now im going to count my Doge bags xD then
