The rustic bunting (Emberiza rustica)
These quiet, inconspicuous birds were digging in the old thawed foliage. There were about 5-8 of them. I noticed them by accident, saw a movement from afar. I slowly and quietly crept up on them.
The birds noticed me and became alarmed, and began to slowly fly to new places.
This is a rare and unusual guest in this forest! They do not live here.
In the photo you see a male. The females are painted completely brown, without black and rusty spots. It seems I already post photo of the female in last year.

This species is a rare vagrant to western North America. I once drove from Tacoma to San Francisco to see on in Golden Gate Park! Sweet photos.

looks just like our sparrow in South Africa, the Afrikaans name is a "mossie"
Yeah, birds of this genus/family looks like sparrows :) But you can distinguish them by the unusual shape of the beak.
