Nacridan's "Underwoods' Horror"

in #artzone6 years ago (edited)

That's the kind of dull day you have to deal with administrative tasks and feel like you did nothing great... So what to share with my deer Steemians ? That's what I was wondering when I stumbled upon one of my old pictures supplies...
Finally found something that could be worth sharing :

The Underwoods' Horror !

Some time ago, years 2011-2012, I used to paint illustrations for a french web based rpg game : Nacridan and here's one of the last I made for them.
Soon after this one I realized brutally I wasn't made for illustration jobs (too much rigourous process, not enough wild creation) and stopped painting and drawig at all during 4 years.

I hope you'll enjoy :)
Have fun, don't take things too seriously, and do what that make you feel good as much as you can ;)

I think it's a pity you stopped, but if you don't like it, it makes no sense anyway. It's more a pity nobody notices that great stuff here!

Thanks :)
At that time I was shred between a full-time job, my two young children, my passion for illustration, an insane goal of perfection, and a will to satisfy the requesters of the illustrations beyond their expectations...
The perfect burnout's recipe :D
Now, got rid of a good part of the destructive stuff and learnt it's ok to take your time, creating without tieing yourself to creepy industrialized processes.

And no problem about getting noticed : That's only a month I've first posted on steemit, and I got more attention on my work than ever before, and by people doing great stuff themselves :D
Will be a slow process I think, which is ok : it's like drawing a line after another :p

Ok, I totally understand your problem, it´s similar to the one I´m facing nowadays. Guess why I´m not sharing new stuff... so take your time :) But still I´m enjoying your old stuff!

Take yours too ;)
I think I did guess your situation : good old stuff + young child -> no mystery :)

If you're also the kind to fell stranded by reality's duties when eager to create, just go for simple things... Sketches, spontaneity, these tiny instants are often enough to feel liberated :)
Share them when you want, they'll be welcome and anyways, they'll contribute later to build your work to come. :)

When it's time to create : no pressure, just pleasure :)

You´re so right. And indeed, I started to sketch more often! Let´s see where it leads me... :)

Great Job!! The tone is dark and really sets the emotion of the character. The process pics were a nice addition. Never heard of the game. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, glad you liked it :)
To be honest, I've never played the game :)
Developpers were giving descriptions on an art forum and we were a bunch of artists collaborating with them on a volunteer way. This aspect made that a really nice creative project :)

Love it when artists collab. Its such a great way to form a vision on a project. Great work. Gonna Follow to see more.

Thank you again :) Following back :)

Thanks a lot Mr ! :)

You should work for tabletop companies. A lot more relaxed and creative room, even if the pay isn't as good. Or sell stock art. Then you can draw what you want and make some money :)

Thanks for your comment :)
A few years ago I would have followed these advices, as that was exactly the path I was following.
For now I try to focus on abstracts paintings, mostly getting out of the illustration field, taking slowly computers away from the creative process.
Back to the basics :)
I don't feel like I'd be flexible enough to comply again to professional client's criterias like I would have been in the past. That might change, but for now I have the feeling I have something to find out while painting.
Some weird spiritual stuff animating my creative mind :)

Anyways, at some point I'll probably have to sell or dump these paintings... That begins to take some room at home :D

Take care :)
