Un guerrero indio
encontró un huevo de águila en el pico de una montaña.An Indian warrior
found an eagle egg on the peak of a mountain
Y lo puso junto con los huevos
que iban a ser empollados por una gallina.And he put it together

Cuando el tiempo llegó
los polluelos salieron del cascarón y el aguilucho también.When the time arrived

Después de un tiempo
aprendió a cacarear al escarbar la tierra, a buscar lombrices y a subir a las ramas más bajas exactamente como hacían las gallinas.After a while

Su vida transcurrió en la conciencia de que era una gallina.

Un día, ya vieja,
mirando hacia arriba observó un majestuoso pájaro volando en el cielo abierto como si no necesitase hacer el más mínimo esfuerzo. Impresionada, se volvió a la gallina más próxima y le preguntó:-¿Qué pájaro es aquel?
La gallina miró hacia arriba y respondió:
-¡Ah! Es el águila dorada, reina de los cielos. Pero no pienses en ella, tú y yo somos de aquí abajo.
One day, already old,
she is looking up and observed a majestic bird flying in the open sky as if not needing to make the slightest effort. Impressed, she turned to the nearest hen and asked:-What bird is that?
The hen looked up and replied:
-Ah! It is the golden eagle, queen of the heavens. But do not think about it, you and I are from down here.
El águila no miró al cielo nunca más
y murió en la conciencia de que era una gallina, pues así había sido tratada siempre.The eagle did not look at the sky anymore
and died in the consciousness that it was a chicken, as it had always been treated.
Moraleja:
Si no te has visto en un espejo es tiempo de que lo hagas. Quizás estás viviendo la vida que otros dicen que debes vivir. Quizás eres un águila que se cree gallina, porque las gallinas a tu alrededor te lo hacen creer.Moral of a fable:
