Picking Apples (WIP)

Work In Progress

The Apple Tree

I wasn't happy with the dark outlines around the trees leaves, I used a dark blue gray color called Payne's Gray.

I outlined the leaves and apples in lighter green or red for the apples and white gouache and will go back through to add a bit of shadow around the base of the leaves.

Most of the weekend I just stared at my painting. I scrubbed the paint of the barn. I didn't like how the barn and chicken coop turned out. I actually like the scrubbed look better. I decided to lighten up the tree and the apples to make the picture go surreal, which means dream like. I will work with the grass the same way.

The grass the horse is standing on will be a lot greener when I finish. Maybe I will make the grass look like clouds, I keep seeing clouds in my imagination.

My grandson said the apples look like berries now and he wants to eat them...So I guess the tree is what ever you wish it to be...a wishing tree!

I guess this picture will be titled the "Wishing Tree."

Once I get past what ever is blocking me, this time it was what style I wanted, the painting should start progressing quickly.

22 x 30 inches, 300lb cold press cotton paper, watercolor and gouache.

@reddust,
My dear friend this is amazing! Your childhood experiences you brought to the reality pretty amazingly! No words to say about it! This is absolutely a brilliant artwork!

Cheers~

Okay I am basically a philistine with concept of art.......maybe not.
So the apples might hold a certain resemblance to berries but the fruit picker kinds of confirms the tree being an apple tree.
This art reminds me so much of the paintings from the Mughal era in India that it is kind of nostalgic.
To my eye the painting seems to be two different parts. One is the place where the horse and the fruit picker stand and second is background clearly delineated by the sandy path. I like it.
(It is the foreground that reminds of the paintings from Mughal era)

So other people paint like this @hashcash? The foreground just has the base color of yellow, I will be adding different shades of blue to make the grass green. I stll have lots of work to do on all the subjects and bring the background, middleground, and foreground into harmony. I will look up the artist and styles you mentioned. I am intrigued!

I do not understand art that much. I definitely cannot give a critique that could qualify at any level. I just wrote what I thought.

I found your art really interesting and it reminds me of the art I have previously seen. I hope you upload the finished work. Thanks!

Maybe in my privious life I was an indian artist....my art looks kind of serveimage.jpeg

You see it to right? What a relief, I thought I was alone.
Also what would you say if I told you that in the painting the horse seems to be the most majestic and central figure?
Was it intentional or maybe I am wrong?

I love this

Very well made and full of details, red wow too much spam now in your post that's awful

I just flagged them all...next time 100%...thank you @dim753, you are the best (hugs)

Yes @reddust that's what you have to do, i mean when you need to use the force you have to do it, a new word i learn today hehehe (hugs), can i say hugs for you too i think yes. Regards

I love the horse most here! Here muscles play with the sun so great - I can never reach that effect on my artworks!
And about the apples I'm shocked as usual - you're the queen of patience when it comes to tiny details!

I am the queen of patience, you should see my culture/family...hahaha learn to be patient or go insane!

I grew up with horses and I have been drawing them since I was a small child so I have a lot of practice inber. I am horrible at drawing character fantasy art, which you are a master!

Feels like I'm back in my countryside when I look at the picture :-)

actually your grand son is right about apple, just let eat that. this painting looks alive now with the color layer, great works.

These are special apples made from my imagination, they will gift you with super powers of creativity if you eat just one! hahaha

Thank you @sheikh27

Still in progress? :d
But when I think about it... Jesus Christ, with so many apples to paint, I would draw it for 10 years :D

You know about writers block? I was having artist block, the painting wasn't turning out the way I liked it...Now I think I know which way to go...the apple tree told me how the rest of the painting will turn out...I am already planing a second painting...plus writing several articles. Sometimes my down times when I wrestle with myself turn out to be the most creative time for me...but it is so painful. Now I know why so many creatives turn to drugs...hahaha

No I am not doing any drugs..I am high enough dealing with this old body....sigh

You practice deep meditation so I'm sure you will find enlightenment to finish your painting lol.
Teach me later how to talk to apple trees please :d

I realise that this is still a work in process, so ignore the comments if they are not relevant. I love the use of the apples in the background creating almost a theatrical back drop to the subjects in the foreground. The part that I feel you should consider when moving forward is the style of the figure and the style of the horse are not the same and because they are on the same plane withing the painting it becomes a little awkward. The idea and playfulness of the work is wonderful. Look forward to seeing the completed work.

The horse isn't done, it is pretty much like the rest of the picture 2 levels deep. I figured out the style with the tree and I will integrate that throughout the painting....right now nothing jives, that's usually what happens when I am still in the second layer...just wait, I got it!

I have no doubt that it's going to be incredible when you've finished, you're more than accomplished enough. Good luck.

You have devoted yourself to this project and you have so much determination when you draw, you are just awesome.

I am not giving up on this project, I've been wrestling with my vision and my abilities...the painting wasn't turn out...but I think I figured out which way I want to go. Thank you @steemitwarrior!
