A Day at the Museum (with Marilyn)

The little boy was fondling Marilyn Monroe... He appeared to be about 10 or 11 years old and was stroking her arm with one hand while reaching for her chest with the other. She was dressed in the famous outfit from the movie The Seven Year Itch standing on that lucky subway grate, with the breeze causing her dress to rise in the air. Slightly bent over and legs akimbo, our star showed no reaction to the ever-wandering digits, which were now closing in on her nether regions...

As George Takei would say; Oh My!

I stood there transfixed watching the scene unfold as the realization hit me that his mother was standing right next to him, gazing on as if nothing untoward was happening. "Marilyn" in this case, is a life-sized statue made of smooth metal that is one of the main attractions at the museum. We have seen untold numbers of people (male and female) sticking their heads up under her billowing dress, licking, kissing and "riding" her in unspeakable ways. Old men coping a quick feel, sparked by memories of her calendar gracing their walls as a young man. A few weeks ago a very drunk young woman took her shoes off and tried to mount the icon, only to fail miserably. To say this piece is a prized possession, would be quite an understatement.

However, she is just one attraction in this new exhibit showcasing the costumes that famous actors have worn in Hollywood movies. We'll take a look at a sample of these to whet you appetite when this show comes to your town.

A must-see flick

First up, we have the outfits worn in the costume drama Duchess released in 2008. The beautiful ball gown worn by Keira Knightley (visitors hoped they didn't wash it), is featured, along with other members of the cast. I've seen the movie and can't recommend it highly enough, you will love to hate Ralph Fiennes, while saving your sympathy for the Duchess alone.

A new world

Next, we have swashbuckling attire from the movie The New World (2006), starring Colin Farrell as Captain John Smith and the pirate-style costume worn by Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. A line formed here and the ladies were especially taken on this one, with fingers darting in and out for a forbidden touch. Each of them no doubt, wanting to take a piece of Mr. Depp home with them in order to fuel dark fantasies...

The photos shown were taken quickly as I was given exclusive access just before members of the public were allowed in, so we sacrificed quality for speed. With almost no notice and an old phone with a dodgy camera, I shot as fast as I could. After all, we didn't want to keep the blue-haired ladies waiting...

The lady in the red dress...

To conclude with, I've inserted a selection of gowns that were popular with the patrons including the red silk taffeta gown worn by actress Laura Flynn Boyle in the 2006 film Land of the Blind. The high-born men had a particular interest in this one, running their hands all over it. God only knows what twisted scenarios blossomed in their fertile minds. This was actually worn by a model who greeted the guests prior to the opening.

And there you have it! I've left out a good part of the collection so you'll have some surprises in store when the event reaches your area. Despite all of the garments from the movies, their was no doubt that - as in real life - Marilyn Monroe completely stole the show. I have never seen so many ungodly things done to an icon of the cinema in broad daylight...

She would have LOVED IT! :)
