The footsteps in the sand pictured above are from our very first time on the beach in Bimini! A very significant step on our journey of living on a sailboat. It was our first time outside of the US on our sailboat and felt like a whole new world. The water was absolutely stunning. Clear, bright turquoise water that was just so unbelievably beautiful. I thought this was a perfect photo to capture our first steps in The Bahamas.
This is my entry for landscape photography contest by @juliank
As I've said in my previous two photography posts, this week (at least) I'll be posting about our boat life. We arrived in Bimini after crossing from Rodriguez Key in Florida on February 18, 2016.
The first course of action upon arriving in the Bahamas is to check in with Customs and Immigration.
We all hopped in the dinghy to head that way... and got a tad bit lost. The route we'd been told to take was so shallow that even our dinghy couldn't get through. Jaedin @knightengale had to get out and pull us throught he shallows.
Here is @serapium with Cinnamon. As it turned out, we didn't need to take the dogs in with us to check in, but they enjoyed the ride and the chance to get off of the boat anyway. They REALLY enjoyed running around the beach after a long day of travel.
Paris aka @loliboofae and Jazz aka @schmwke were with us on the boat through until we hit Georgetown. Paris is the one that inspired The Tempest Papers as a way for me to keep her up to date on how her cat was doing after she went back to the US for a while.
@abyni gathered a LOT of shells in the Bahamas. After the sad lack of seashells along the Florida coast,
she was thrilled to find so many shells on the shores of Bimini!
We spent a lot of time in awe over the amazing white sand and the crystal clear water. There were tons of conch shells in piles on the beaches. This was so much better than I could have even imagined. Sure, I'd seen photos before, but I assumed that they had been photoshopped.
It was such an amazing adventure and maybe I'll post about the whole day long adventure of the check in process, dropping my phone in the ocean and... all the sea creatures we saw that day. For now, I'll leave you with this beautiful sunset that I watched from the portlight in my cabin as we ended our first full day in Bimini.

Looks beautiful. Glad you're enjoying your boat life so far.
We're back on land now, but these memories seemed worth sharing. It is the anniversary of the crossing and that was a pretty huge thing. We've all been remembering the boat life and missing it a lot during these cold and gloomy months back on land!
Oh...I must have misread you...
Are you planning on going out again, if you miss it so much?
At some point. I was always torn with wanting the adventure and travel, but at the same time, I missed my kids back on land a LOT. Especially since there wasn't really a good easy (or cheap) way to stay in touch! Who knows what will happen next? We may all flee to the ocean sometime :)
Yeah, I wouldn't think leaving your kids at home would be sustainable. You would likely have to homeschool them, or only leave on times off from school.
Oh, no. Sorry. I'm old and I'm not being very clear. :)
My kids are all grown and moved out, other than one. Some of them came along for at least part of the adventure, but the oldest was already married with a child when we left. The other was settled on a relationship and not the adventuring type.
We DID homeschool them for most of their lives, though, and they traveled with us in a bus when they were younger for a few years! If only we'd done the sailing then!
what a beautiful post, muy bien :)
Thank you so much :) I'm glad you enjoyed it!
