The Life of Pets... Who Live on Boats: Animal Photography

This is my entry into Animal Photography Contest by @juliank

So my theme of this week is going to be mostly boat related things. I'm going to have memories popping up everywhere since yesterday, the 18th marked the two year anniversary of our first crossing on our sailboat with my husband @serapium leading us on our crazy adventure.

Today, it's going to be about the animals... of course there are a lot (A LOT) of photos of the four animals that lived on the boat with us, so today will just be an introduction of sorts.

First off, I'll just go from biggest to smallest so that I don't have to pick favorites ;)

Here is Tiberius sitting out on deck with our daughter @abyni

Tiberius is our rescue puppy. We got him 4 years ago (you can see his Before and After photos from puppyhood to now)

Tiberius loved the boat life maybe even more than Patrick did. He loved getting to go for rides in the dinghy or the kayak, the water, loved swimming to catch the frisbee, exploring new islands and traveling... it was all awesome to him. The only problem was when we were sailing and everyone was in different areas of the boat and he wanted us to all stick together. He's definitely a herd dog. He's a mix of Mini Australian Shepherd & Border Collie.

Here is @knightengale watching the fish with Cinnamon & Tiberius

Cinnamon is the chihuahua. She was a reluctant rescue. She was found abandoned on the side of the highway and no one else would take her. We kept her for a short bit until she could find a home, but Tiberius fell in love with her, so she ended up staying.

Elephant was the oldest pet by far. She was about 14 years old when we went on the boat. We had already thought she was at the end of her life several times before, but she stuck it out. She didn't seem to mind the boat and liked being at anchor. She could sit out and bask in the sun or sit in the pilot house for shade.

She did NOT like travel days and would prove it by puking on my pillow (with me still on it, because I was horribly motion sick when we traveled, too!) We did eventually find some solution that seemed to work for her on the rare days when we had to travel far.

Tempest was the best boat cat of all. She ruled the place, or so she thought. After @loliboofae & @schmwke left the boat to come back to the US for a while, Tempest really seemed to get more... well, sassy. She wrote letters to her humans back home pretty much Bitching about the lack of good food and sad lack of appreciation she got as The Boat Cat

@byn

Happy to help, even if just a little! :)

Life of pets on board, most interesting @byn our dogs love the beach, we never owned boats so have no idea how they would have reacted.

The bigger dog, Tiberius LOVED the boat life so much. His humans were always around, he got to go swimming every day and bask in the sun. The other animals, I'm not sure they cared either way, but he truly loved it. I think he still misses it!

Thanks for reading!
@byn

I loved the name elephant !!

She was a great cat. We had a cat named Elephant and a used to have a dog named Kitty as well, but she passed away a couple of years ago.

Thank you for reading!

Awww, they are some really adorable animals!! Hopefully, you'll win the competition. I absolutely think that you deserve it!

Thank you so much! I appreciate your support!

@byn

They all seem to get an so well - Elephant is a great name :)

They really did a lot of bonding on the boat. Both of the cats eventually warmed up enough to let Tiberius cuddle with them. It took a while, though!

Thanks for the comment!
@byn

What unusual inhabitants of boats) Great!

The humans on board were pretty unusual, too... or maybe you were talking about the humans! :)

Thanks for the comment!
@byn

Impressive! Who knew that many animals could live happily on a boat? I can't wait to read the Tempest Papers. After your tempting description, "Bitching about the lack of good food and sad lack of appreciation she got as The Boat Cat" who could resist? lol

Ha, if you like the description, you should love her posts! She's a salty one, for sure! Of course she had to put up with all of us humans, so who can blame her? ;)

Thanks for reading!
@byn

Adorable pictures, thank you for taking care of these animals! Thanks for joining us on the curation show too. Excellent post!

Thank you for the support! We love all of these animals! They are a part of the family :)
