Following the loss in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, the Cleveland Cavaliers are now facing a scary offseason right now. They are in the verge of losing LeBron James and a roster with very problematic contracts like JR Smith and Tristan Thompson. But right now, they’re major priority must be keeping LeBron James even though the association doesn’t have a good relationship with him. James is almost a lock to leave Cleveland and he has been link to big market teams like the Los Angeles Lakers. James is now trying to improve his legacy and do not want to add a loss again in his finals record of 3-6. What could the Cavs actually can to convince him to stay? It will be very challenging but it’s not impossible. We will show you what’s the best options for the Cavs to keep LeBron on their roster.

The first thing they should do is to trade bad contracts. Tristan Thompson and JR Smith played very bad all season long. Their performances are not worth of their contract. Yes they played well in some key stretches but only in some games. Tristan is good in rebounding especially in getting offensive boards, but he cannot provide post scoring and rim protection that the Cavs badly needed. JR is a great shooter but not very consistent. And he always makes bad decisions. Remember what he did in Game 1 of the finals? That’s awful. That play could’ve save Cavs season and maybe change the result of the series. Kyle Korver and George Hill also had huge contracts but they are not getting any younger and they could not contribute what the Cavs needed from them especially in the guard position. The Cavs should find ways to deal these players even if they have to sacrifice future picks. If they were successful trading them, the Cavs could sign a good free agent like George or Cousins.

Next thing to do is to trade for Kemba Walker. Since the trade deadline and during the Draft night, the Charlotte Hornets are shopping Kemba Walker, but no team successfully acquires him in a trade because of the high asking price even if it was the last year of his contract. The Cavs drafted guard Collin Sexton. Sexton is a great player but he’s a rookie and he might not show up in the playoffs and can get nervous during big nights and big games. Walker is a proven star who could be a great replacement for Kyrie Irving and can be paired with LeBron James. A big three of James, Love and Walker might be the answer to beat the Golden State Warriors if they can add great role players that would help the three and Kemba would love to play with the greatest player in the world and a trip to the NBA Finals.

Lastly, the Cavs should try to trade for the San Antonio Spurs’ franchise player, Kawhi Leonard. Leonard is unhappy with San Antonio and recently he asks for a trade and now the Spurs will be force to look for the right option in exchange for Leonard. Leonard is the best two way player in the league today and his value will surely be very high. The Cavaliers do not have any asset to trade for Leonard. Their only option that can be reasonable is to trade Kevin Love and Collin Sexton for Kawhi, including Cedi Osman and a future draft pick. It will be a huge risk to trade for Kawhi because he might not stay for long because L.A. is his preferred destination but the Cavs can convince him to stay and pair him with LeBron James to beat the Golden State Warriors and win multiple championships in Cleveland.
