Back to Earth (Original)

in #story7 years ago

Several light years ago
Back on the planet
I fled the scene called our world
for astral pastures.

With no real destination
No ideas of home
I was content to float on
Disembodied me.

I so wish that I could say
I've seen almost all
Stars, black holes, supernovae
Instead of blank dark,

That gravity assists and
Eager persistence
Gave me some newfound wisdom
and not homesickness.

In a nebula is when
I finally woke
Thirsty for water, unsure,
Far from all I know.

Fear has never held my leash
So again I went
Searching space to see
The familiar.

But there are no pictures and
No adventure known
Just the dark struggle
Of finding my home.

And as I'm crashing back down
While seeing the sights
For a moment I forget
Why I ever left.
